At my parents house, I just upgraded from a Chromecast with Google TV 1080p
to the newer: Google TV Streamer 4k and noticed a bug on the new Streamer
that is not present on the previous Chromecast with Google TV 1080p.
When I select a Movie in the list that has both a 1080p and 4k version file present, it shows that it will play the 4k version..
however any time I hit play/resume, it plays the 1080p version.
Hitting Select/Play version where 4k is selected by default, then I press 4k, it actually plays the 4k version (I’m using Plex Dash to monitor this on my phone)
Selecting a Movie that only has 4k, does play the 4k version thankfully without issues.
I do however have a lot of Movies with both 1080p and 4k versions.. so this is quite annoying.
The interesting thing is that on the Chromecast with Google TV 1080p
it would also show the 4k version and when you select play, it would play the 4k version
which fails as I have transcoding turned ‘off’ server side.
Thank you for looking into this!
Ps: I played with various settings on the Google TV Streamer Plex app regarding Quality and nothing matters.
I also checked the Streamer settings and 4k60hz is the auto/default selection.
