Gracenote EPG issues - Missing most US channels from Canada

Server Version#: 1.21.1.3876
Player Version#: Unrelated
Tuner Make/Model: Wintv QuadHD + HDHR4 + WinTV HVR2250
Guide/Lineup name: Unsure - Using Bell Fibe for now
Using XMLTV?: No
Channel number/Name: US channels

I just “upgraded” to Gracenote, deleted my DVR and started recreating it and already having issues.

Have you guys thought about the fact that some Canadian users are getting airings from the US and vice versa? This is really frustrating at this point as I went from a close to perfectly running setup to a broken one.

It seems that for all US sub channels from the main ones, GRIT, LAFF, Quest from ABC (WVNY) for example, are gone and not found on local EPG data. I’ve searched through all EPG provider options, Bell Fibe, Videotron, VMedia, Local, etc, to no luck.

Is there a way for you with Gracenote to provide US and Canadian EPG data at the same time, as it was before transitioning to Gracenote?

I have used Bell Fibe EPG listing for now, as it seems to be the most complete, with only the main channel showing and none of the subs recognized. Except for a couple ones where the main channel and its subs are just not recognized. A lot of others are mismatched with close to names that is inacurate.

I just can’t believe what I am seeing right now, this is one of the worst planed migration I’ve got to see. How could you force a rollout as such without testing it any further? It is clearly broken up and flawed.

Anyhow, I’ll stop there as I don’t want to express how frustrated I am right now anymore. This is the only paying service in Plex and you’re making us go through this?

Please get back to me with a resolution or how to fix this.

Cheers,
Dave

It won’t help you right now, but this issue was brought up in the announcement thread and was discussed:

For the time being, your best bet is likely to use the information included in the first post of that thread to report the channels you receive, but for which there is no guide data.

There should be a more user friendly way to fix this. Exactly how Tablo handles this…

Anyways, I will compile the channel list and submit it.

I still can’t figure why this wasn’t taken into account before forcing users to migrate over to Gracenote.

In the meantime, should you need me to beta test anything related to this issue, feel free to PM me, I’ll be more than happy to help you out and more importantly, help out other users facing the same issue.

As a side note, it would be a great idea to push the Jan 15 date a couple weeks, until everything becomes a seamless switch for everyone.

A note should also be added to the migration announcement, that if channels are being received from more than one country, to hold up until proper fixes are rolled out.

My 2 Canadian cents… For what they’re worth…

I think I found a workaround for now… Could very well be permanent if that’s the way it’s intended to work. Instead of have 23 missing/mismatched channels, I’m only seeing 3 or 4 as independent, which I will report using the form.

Basically, all I have done, is to chose USA as the country and input the ZIP code of a city I know is right across the border, in this Case Champlain, NY - 12919.

For the other tuners, I could select Canada and both US and Canadian channels were associated correctly, again, except for 3 or 4 that I’m seeing only with their call sign / independent next to them, but looking at the EPG, they seem to be fine and recognized.

Groovy…

Not sure how and if this will work for someone with only one OTA tuner.

Please share the news.

Choose USA and 14304 as your zip. Niagara Falls, NY. You’ll get all Southern Ontario and Buffalo, NY stations.
