Granting library access to user without Plex account

Server Version#:.42.2.10156

I have added a home user that does not have a Plex account. When I try to share a library to them, it requires emailing an invitation to someone that has a Plex account. Do I really have to create an email address and Plex account for my 6 year old to access educational content?

That’s what managed users are for. Use that for your kid.

I have other existing family members that were created without needing an account. Lets be honest, This is nothing more than Plex getting email address to market their services. The worst part is that you cannot edit a current user to add an an email. You have to delete there account and create a new one losing their playlists, history, and preferences.

Plex SUCKS!!!

That’s not possible. You can only share to a Plex account, you send the invite to either an email address (the person can create a Plex account if they don’t have 1 already) or to an existing Plex username (this can be a regular user with the username they created or a managed user you created beforesending the invite). It is not possible to access any server without having a Plex account. The only exception is if you allow access to your server without authentication, then a Plex account is not used. Even if you have a Plex account it gets ignored in this scenario.

The local network is set to allow to access the server without authentication, The existing home users were setup without a Plex account and have been granted access to media. I can create a new user without an email but cannot grant media access. Is there a way to link a Plex account to an existing user? If not, they will lose their playlists, history, and preferences.

After creating a new managed user, stop and restart the server.
Do the same with the Plex web app.
