This probably sounds like Rocket Science, but Plex could NOT ENABLE IT BY DEFAULT!
I did not realize this was the default setting. I’ll bring that up to the team.
And while we’re at it: HOW ARE THINGS GOING WITH THOSE UNWANTED FAVORITE TRACKS IN MY MUSIC LIBRARY THAT KEEP SHOWING UP EVEN AFTER I TURN THEM OFF?!https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/221067/music-and-those-persistent-popular-tracks
Off topic so I’ll answer over there.

It’s switched on by default so it’s a bit late when you have a few hundred dvds ripped to realise the car crash that collections is.
I’ll look into this. If you want to get rid of the collection info, try this, https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/comment/1015283/#Comment_1015283.
What we’d also like is Plex to create proper collections as requested numerous times.
We hear you.

Thank you for your response.
Does Plex have any sort of roadmap/upcoming features?
As stated previously in this thread, this feature would massively improve the user experience for a large number of users. I am just glad we have had finally had a response from the Plex team after all this time.

Yeah, we’ve heard this before, though… ![]()
I would love this feature!

Shocked to see this wasn’t already part of the functionality. I have no desire to scroll through 20 different Bond movies everytime I open my library. You can already do this with TV shows as a single thumbnail hides multiple seasons/episodes. So frustrating that the devs continue to ignore such a crucial issue.
I’am not sure exactly what your requesting but have your considered making a separate Library or a play list titled “Favs” or “Movie Favs”.

I’m pretty sure he’s suggesting what’s already mentioned in this and three over multi page threads on the subject. And yeah they’re a pain to trawl through.
Collections are a basic part of just about every other media server software. However Plex have no interest in adding it…
If I recall the last official word on it was “we’re listening” and that was way back last year.
In essence if the word filter or playlist is mentioned… Its not a collection… Its a filter or a playlist.

So this is all about Collections, Ok.
Personally I have no issue the way Plex correlates content now but each to there own. Using “Sort” and “Collections” tags when setting up my Multiple Indexed Libraries, I have no trouble navigating my large Collection as described. In fact my preferred Genres which are much larger are now broken in two, less than a hundred titles per Library. I also keep a “All Movies” Library just in case i have issues. Search field normally resolves anything.
I hope they resolve your Collections request, even if it doesn’t excite me.
Yeah I believe the tagging works great now.
I was actually only guiding you in what the general feeling has been with the lack of true collections. There were some highly heated discussions at the time.
Anyway I’m on PlexKodiConnect nowadays so true collections are already there for those who need them. Personally I’m not that bothered about them but many still are but have probably come to realise they are banging their heads against the wall.
I keep seeing some kind of integration of Plex with Kodi as the solution, but then doesn’t it become much more difficult to stream to a roku or something?

No mate not at all.
All three options are purely only clients and have no effect on the server.
The options are :
PlexForKodi . A recent official Plex app that just installs inside Kodi. Beyond that it doesn’t talk to Kodi at all, so there’s no Kodi skins or anything like that. It will use the PlexForKodi UI.
'PlexBMC. Unofficial and doesn’t seem to be still being developed but I may be wrong.
PlexKodiConnect. Again unofficial, It uses Kodi itself for playback, you can use any Kodi skin to watch media from your PMS. It will still keep in sync, so if you switch to a different device your watched status will still be up to date. In effect you are using Kodi with all the powerful configuration options that Kodi has to offer but still keeping all of the PMS features.
Hope it clarifies it a little.
Ah okay HitsVille, thanks for the explanation. Looks like PlexKodiConnect might be the most flexible option for a complete media center. Going to check it out.

Has this been implemented yet?
I have about 20 documentaries from one director, and only one from several others. I can make a collection for that one director, but it’s silly to scroll through all of his docs to find one from someone else. Filters work, but they add several steps and take away the pleasure of browsing.
A “Group Collections” option would do wonders.
There are a lot of things about Plex I’m less than thrilled with, but this strangely isn’t one of them:

I agree, I have no issue at all creating movie groups / libraries. In fact it common sense to do just that.

I’m just curious… Why do you feel its common sense to manually sort through a couple of thousand movies to implement what is a very basic feature of every other mainstream media centre/server software?
That’s not an attack of any kind… personally as long as PKC and all the other non official apps that provide all this basic stuff I care not.
However if it isn’t this basic feature then it will be another… it seems like the thin edge of the wedge to me to suggest the we should be all finding our own way around Plex’s missing features.

Because I use Plex and best way to collect is to manually Collect. Just the same as collecting Coins, stamps, memorabilia, etc
Then it’s your own collection. To automate is definitely not your own Collection to claim. I’m in no Hurry to see AI (Artificial intelligence), to lose the few joys and rewards left in life.
So why have you waited so long to create your own Collection, now your libraries are in thousands? To me it means collecting is not your underlying interest but likes the suggestions given by software.
The hobby of collecting includes seeking, locating, acquiring, organizing, cataloging, displaying, storing, and maintaining whatever items are of interest to the individual collector. The scope of collecting is unlimited, which is expressed in the hyperbolic expression: “If something exists, somebody somewhere collects them.”
