In my area Comcast/Xfinity runs 3 “unique” channel line ups:
- An SD line-up (0-99)
- A “I’ll stick the new SD and HD version of a channel where there is a spot” line-up (100-999)
- A “I’ll actually group like content together and only use the HD version of the channel” line-up (1000-1999)
For obvious reasons I have always preferred the third line up and typically hide all the other channels. With the latest Plex Server upgrade and the new DVR setup experience this now appears to be totally busted and impossible to do. First I had to delete the working DVR after the upgrade because it would no longer find channels (did I miss a warning somewhere? I already did the one EPG upgrade and did not see news about another). And then when I try to set things up again it appears that all concept of “channel number” has been removed from everything.
Even if I choose the channel name from the third line up in the drop down (talk about pain in the neck to do that in the first place) it keeps opting it back to the first version of the channel in the guide. For example, if I choose the ABC channel at 1004 I end up getting the ABC channel at 104 in the guide. So effectively I am trapped in line-up #2 above because PLEX always finds the channel first in that line up based on where they numbering is at.
My family already thinks Plex is a waste of time (and given the amount of babysitting it seems to require I am inclined to agree). But when it works it works really well so I have been willing to give the effort. But patience is wearing thin at this point and this might be the proverbial straw. No one is happy about having to figure out where their favorite channels are again.
