So when I’m setting up the DVR it shows and matches to the proper channel (CHEX 12.1 which is CTV in Canada). But when it downloads the guide / show info it shows a different channel and lineup (NBC) . Does the DVR setup and the guide not get their info from the same place?
@chyjinx Are you able to search for a show that you know is on that channel, and and verify what channel it says it’s on?
Okay, so I did a search for CHEX News and it couldn’t find it. It only found programs that are on NBC channel it thinks it is.
Here’s something even crazier, in the picture below I’ve clicked on channel 12.1, but it shows “2.1” (which is my proper NBC channel) As you can see it’s airing Masterchef which is what is currently on CHEX 12.1, not American Ninja like it says on the guide.
Also the NBC on 2.1 and the NBC it says is on 12.1 are different regions as the programming is slightly different, so I know it’s not just duplicating.
I just checked and it looks like it’s been fixed. not sure if it did it on it’s own or not.
EDIT: Nope, it’s back to NBC, I’m not really sure whats happening here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
@DaveBinM Any other Ideas?
I have quite a bit of shows that SHOULD be recording from 12.1 but are not as the guide shows different shows.
If you could provide some logs from when this happens, it would be super helpful.
@chyjinx just curious what you’re using for you epg guide data? are you using an antenna or cable?
if you’re downloading your own guide data as an xml file, you could always check to see if there is an issue in the data in the file.
I’m asking because in my area there was no guide found by plex, so download mine using zap2xml, which gets it’s data from https://tvlistings.zap2it.com
@DaveBinM Attached are the logs, and I have only saw the correct channel once. I woke up the following day and it w as back to NBC.
@jrbilodeau I’m on antenna and allowing Plex to gather the EPG data how it normally does. So when I’m matching up the channels, channel 12.1 matches up with the correct info (1st pic in the thread). When I go to the guide it doesn’t show the info for CHEX, it shows NBC (2nd pic in the thread). I’ve deleted the tuner, changed my postal code to another close by but no luck. I’ve troubleshooted the crap outta this on my end. Also I’ve done it with and without my VPN. no difference.
Also @jrbilodeau I’m going to try zap2xml. Thanks!
@DaveBinM Because @jrbilodeau told me to check out zap2xml after I put in the postal code I noticed the following. Which I’m assuming is the issue.
Yeah, that doesn’t look to be right.
@chyjinx I know that for zap2xml that in the case of overlapping channel # like 12.1 in your case, that they ensure to give one each it’s own channel id so that both can be listed in the guide without having issues of wrong guide information showing up.
I believe that plex has an issue with the way that they’ve implemented the guide, because when i use zap2xml, they are showing the channel id as the channel name. I have a post about it, but i’m having trouble finding it since the update to the forum…it’s not as easy to find stuff as the previous layout (sigh… ) … found it Having issues with Grid view layout
because of the issue that i had, as well as what you’re experiencing. It leads me to wonder if in the implementation of the build in guide, that they list the channel # like 12.1 in the channel id value in the xmltv file?
from what i understand “channel id” should be used to ensure uniqueness of each channel and avoid overlapping channel issues in EPG, and “display name” should be used to display the channel number or channel name (ex: 12.1, CHEXDT).
Hope that help… and mostly hope they fix it soon.
@DaveBinM Okay so now the best I can get is that every once it awhile it will show either NBC or CHEX and it bounces between the 2 channel guides, not sure why it selects one over the other.
So this is happening even though I’ve match the channel up in the DVR setup to CHEX.
Any idea why it’s not listening to my selection?
@jrbilodeau When I setup zap2xml, my guide also came up like yours.
@chyjinx Did you recreate it from scratch, or just modify the existing set up? You might need to set DVR up again if you haven’t already.
@DaveBinM if you check out the link above in my post you’ll see that there is an issue with the way that Plex uses the XMLTV file, and the use of the channel id tag. I believe it’s also the reason that people have issues with the channel lineup on channels where there are 2 channels with the same # in there area
@chyjinx other than the issue of seeing the channel Id instead of the channel number, are your channel listings ok now?
I’ve set it up at least 5-10 times trying to resolve this. I’ve used at least 20 different postal codes in an attempt to get further from one channel and closer to the next, all without success.
I have about 50 channels, 19 of them are HD. 12.1 NBC in Erie PA is not one of them it’s way to far for me to get. When setting up the DVR I have selected CHEX (the only option for channel 12.1) and the guide bounces between the 2 channels at random refreshes.
So I assume it’s whatever company the guide is getting their information from that is screwing this up, also why is the Guide not using the channel I’ve selected in the DVR Setup?
They did work when I had Zap2xml running. I’ve since taken it off while I’m waiting for the ID issue to be fixed.
