The recordings in MY Plex Guide don’t match what’s shown in the Plex DVR schedule. How do I know what’s really going to record?
(Pretend the first two films haven’t started recording and you’ll see where I’m coming from).
Is it from the guide???
Back to the future 2,
Amundsen,
The Hobbit an unexpected Journey,
Kung Fu Panda Two,
Central Intelligence,
CannonBall Run Two
Chinese Zodiac
and
Judge Dredd
Or, from the DVR schedule???
Back to the future 2,
Chinese Zodiac,
CannonBall Run Two,
Amundsen,
Free State of Jones
and Legion?
This is so full of suspense and excitement!!!
YET SO ANNOYING @Plex WHAT’S GOING ON??
Go by the DVR schedule; if it’s not in there, it’s not going to record. In the guide, the programs marked with the red icon are those for which you’ve set up a scheduled recording (you should see them on the DVR Schedule tab in the Recording Priority column, too).
If they don’t show on the DVR Schedule, Plex is excluding them for some reason, the most common being that they already exist in your library. Were there a tuner conflict, they’d show on the schedule with a warning stating as much.
Here’s an example from my own system:
Debug (not verbose) server logs may provide some clues as to why certain items are being excluded, if not’s due to them already existing in your library.
Hi, thanks for the quick reply, none of those recordings are in my library already. Plex DVR has in the past, recorded a second recording of a film when one already exists and then I get the little “2” in in the top left hand corner so I get to choose which recording to watch.
Weird. Debug logs from your system might show why it’s not scheduling those recordings. I’ve also had it record duplicates before, but those are exceptions. Normally it behaves as shown in my screenshot. I’ve left my schedule for Stargate SG-1 active so it can fill in any I’ve missed, or deleted due to poor quality; in this case, I already have S06E12 in my library so it’s skipping it.
To be fair, I don’t DVR many movies. So I can’t share much practical experience there. Hopefully someone else will stop by and can provide some additional insight. Perhaps this is a client issue and it’s just not showing that it’s going to record them for some reason. You could try deleting the recording from the guide and re-adding it to see if that changes what is shown.
Here we go, the results from last night’s recordings…
Note that the EPG is set to auto-update at 2am each day.
Back to the Future part 2 - Recorded correctly and successfully.
Chinese Zodiac - Recorded for 1h45m but instead of the film it recorded a couple of games shows.
Cannonball Run 2 - Recorded for 2h15m but instead of the film it recorded the end of a history programme and Allo Allo
Amundsen - Didn’t record, disappeared from list need to check.
Free State of Jones - Recording started 10 mins before film actually started, lasted 2h4m then stopped recording before the end of the film.
Legion - Recorded for just 9 mins.
On the plus side, I think, have yet to check, my films from TV folder shows more films were recorded that Plex showed in either guide or schedule, I received the extra films of:
Ties That Bind,
Circle of Friends
Sauvage
The Wedding Stalker
Deadly Inferno
Faster
Dragonheart
and Gun.
I guess these are the result of failed recordings that then go intot that right hand pane that shows recording priority.
These are the ups and downs of my Plex DVR life …
