H.265 4K on 2018 Mac mini

Server Version#: 1.18.9.2571

I have a Mac mini 2018 which has an Intel chip that has hardware encoding.decoding of h.265 (6 core 8700B). The server is sitting on my LAN hardwired with gigabit Ethernet. My TV is hardwired to the same LAN.

I cannot stream h.265 4K movies to the TV via plex without it stopping and starting many times (every few seconds) complaining that my connection is not fast enough for the media. If I bypass plex and stream directly from the Mac mini to the TV, the same file works fine.

Is there a setting in the plex server that I’ve missed to tell it to use the Intel decoding?

Edit: I do have “Use hardware acceleration when available” checked for the server.

What TV? Make, model, and year?

Also, what is the version of the Plex app installed on the TV?

Please post your Movie file xml, to guess it is probably a audio issue HD-MA 7.1 channel

There is a setting in the Plex player that overrides the hardware necoding setting and the maximum streaming setting and will ALWAYS re-encode at least h.265 regardless of if the connection needs it. I forget what it was labeled, but something about automatic quality or something that implies it will only apply if the connection speed drops.

Sorry, I can’t remember how it is labeled, but in the Plex app it is right above “Local files [Maximum]”. It makes no mention about overriding hardware encoding./decoding on he server side.
