I have noticed recently it is getting harder and harder to get extras loaded into my media. I am not sure why, i looked in settings and i have not changed anything and cannot see how I can get it back to how it was when if one was missing all i did was refresh and got it. Now seems regardless of refresh or not, I am unable to get trailers loaded (not too bothered about extras). Even popular films dont seem to load anymore…
If anyone has any tips this would be much appreciated.
I have each of those movies.
I get a trailer for each of those but no extras. In the web interface up top is a PLAY TRAILER button right next to the PLAY arrow and this works for each of those movies.
Now take another recent release such as Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and this will also have the TRAILER as well as EXTRAS listed as videos right under the CAST in the web interface.
Thank you for the reply on the above, yes I do have the the “Play Trailer” button at the top!! My bad, I was so used to look down where the “CAST” was to play trailers - I was never aware there was a button at the top now …
So a little different question now - why some have the full trailers in the Cast section and some only in Play Trailer at the top?
That’s a good question that only Plex could answer but if I were to guess I would say it has to do with who Plex licences this information from. If memory serves me correctly it’s IVA http://www.internetvideoarchive.com/
This is all licensed material (read IVA’s website) so that Plex doesn’t have to worry about content rights, royalties or other nonsense that could bight them in the butt down the road. Plex doesn’t use videos on services like Youtube or Vimeo for example since you don’t know if the content is legally posted or not.
Of course AVI has nice APIs to use which makes this easier than trying to scrape (possibly illegal) data as well.
All of the above is just my hunch but maybe an employee or Ninja could comment further,

Generally, I try to add my own local trailers if I can, as well as have the ones made available thru Plex. When a trailer or other extras is available with both methods, everything appears in the “Extras” section as pointed out by @XSnPX
If for some reason, there is only one trailer from either source, and no extras from either source, the trailers and extras section disappears, and is only available with the icon. I sorta would like it down there at the bottom, as well as through the trailer icon
Thanks to all for the help - honestly the main thing is to see the trailers, and do not mind if it is at the top or in the Cast section, would be nice, but not the end of the world, Plex platform is second to none in terms of what they provide for ease to use., I remember 10+ years ago when all of this media was on VCD :/// and massive CD folders numbered lol
