Hardware-Accelerated transcoding CPU Benchmark

Hello, I have two newbie questions here:

  1. I know we have some CPU benchmark data for SW transcoding requirement. But I have a hard time finding the same list/data for HW transcoding requirement. is there a list for that?

  2. I have a one TV that is 1080, when I stream 4k movie from my local PMS, do it automatic transcode to 1080? Or transcode only happens when streaming remotely?

There’s only a list of hardware requirements for hw-transcoding… no dedicated benchmark (e.g. how many streams of certain types a certain GPU can handle).

Plex will automatically attempt to transcode your video if the player cannot support the format, there’s not enough bandwidth for direct streaming or you selected a specific streaming quality. This is not limited to remote streaming.
Just make sure you have hw transcoding enabled in Settings > [Server Name] > Transcoder:
