I’m sorry If I downloaded the wrong version, that is definitely my bad… I’m sorry, let me try to get the right version…
Great. Let’s get this on the good footing we need with the 64 bit software installed.
To inform you of my level of competence with the Synology, I wrote the Plex installer for Synology. I understand it intimately.
Yeah pretty sure I already had the correct version, yep, you guys are pretty much a bunch of bullshitters
Humor me. Prove it with the log files.
If Im right or wrong how exactly does that matter… Why would a user ever have to go to a forum to find how to fix a product that he/she paid for
So at this point you are curious if you fixed my problem??
I am asking for your log files because I do NOT have visibility INTO the machine.
I totally understand your frustration. If you knew how many nights I’ve spent developing for that box, you’d understand me better.
Please just work with me and get the logs. Those logs will show me what your machine is seeing.
From that point forward, my instructions to you will be 100% on target for you and this case.
Without them, I’m blind.
I will most certainly get you the logs… But from my point, hw transcoding used to work and I mistakenly downloaded the updates… from your links… bad mistake. When I downloaded the updates manually and made sure I had the 64 bit, transcoding seemed to work again… I think your issue is your update links…
When I say your I don’t mean your… I mean generally the update links that Plex gives me
Those update are what started causing the issues, and I guess they were pointing to the 32 bit version??? maybe ???
I don’t know how you got the 32 bit version. We can figure that out as post mortem if you want. I do see you’re now on the 64 bit version.
I know Synology’s Package Center will only give you the 32 bit version. That might have been the root of your evils. It’s easy to get confused if Synology pushes an update (which they do prior to updating DSM) and it somehow auto-updated.
With your server now running 64 bits, Settings - Server - Transcoder will give you the Hardware Acceleration option. Please make sure it’s enabled. It should be.
If / when you make it act poorly, please grab those logs… It will let me see the problem the moment it happens…
the 64 bit version is working nicely :), HW transcoding working… thanks. Sorry I’m an ass, I’m kind of suspect of the update notifications, I will grab the logs for you…
the post mortem would be for you guys. and I will help if you guys want debuggin info…
I guess for the record, Plex is the only app that isn’t updated directly via the synology box, I always have to manually install the update after downloading it
That’s fine… No need to post mortem it. I’m only concerned with getting your machine running as it should be.
I can beat on the lab machines for the post mortem.
Tomorrow we can get into any residual issues if you wish.
Regarding it updating from Synology , we have tried over and over to get them to distribute the 64 bit for 64 bit machines. We don’t get any cooperation. They only want to keep track of one version and have chosen the 32 bit.
Wow. Chuck, you have amazing patience. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a more brutal example of somebody having an extremely rude and aggressive attitude completely unnecessarily, without actually letting somebody who is trying to help actually help you. Amazing.
Chuck, I want to second what Mark said. My God, I would never put up with that kind of abusive behavior. You have the patience of a saint!
Also, regarding your comments about Synology not distributing the 64-bit version, maybe you would consider distributing the 64-bit version on one of the community app sites? That would enable automatic updates (for people who want to have the machine handle updates automatically).
Or , maybe you could create a community app site of your own, and have different downloads for PlexPass vs. non-paid members.
Since the earlier comments above, I’ve had a conversation with our Synology liaison. He will bring it up with them again during their next meeting. I hope to have this whole 64/32 bit availability from the Synology Package Center resolved before long. Fingers crossed, maybe I’ll get lucky and resolve it before DSM 6.2 hits.
Hosting the 64-bit SPK on a third party site serves no purpose since it’s already available here.
The Public SPK and the PlexPass SPK are identical. PMS enables PlexPass features when a PlexPass-enabled account is signed in and connects to the internet.
Speednet21, I suggested in another thread that a lot of this confusion would be avoided if PMS displayed a message on the 32-bit version telling people that a) the x64 version is available/recommended and b) you need it + a plex pass to get HW transcoding, it would save a lot of these sorts of support threads which just waste everyone’s time.
Can you point me to the support page(s) where this should be listed?
Here’s one. https://support.plex.tv/articles/201373803-nas-compatibility-list/
