Harmony + FLIRC for Plex HTPC: Are we meant to use the Kodi presets?

I am trying to set up a Plex HTPC remote control with a Harmony remote and a FLIRC receiver on Windows. I have had some success by choosing the Kodi preset in the FLIRC driver, and the FLIRC Kodi device in the Harmony, but I was surprised to see there was no FLIRC profile for Plex.

How are other people doing this? I see lots of posts saying basically “lol just install it idk” but I feel like I am missing something!

I use a Harmony 650 with Flirc.

I set up the Harmony to use the Kodi profile in the Harmony software as it has more options than the Plex profile but either will work fine.

I then use Flirc to customise buttons as needed that may be specific for Plex but for most operations the default setup should be fine. For example, I have used an unused button on the 650 to send a signal to Flirc that quits the application. Something that was not possible in the Harmony software.

Flirc is more about providing the ability to take a standard remote (for example your TV remote) and modifying the buttons ir signal to do specific things.

ps - Flirc are not far away from launching their new universal remote, the Skip 1S

I ended up using the Flirc Kodi profile in my Harmony, but switched the Flirc itself to the full keyboard preset.

Then it was a matter of mapping IR from the Harmony to keyboard inputs appropriate to Plex functions… which included a lot of repurposing unused Kodi commands in the Harmony.

It’s not elegant, but it is flexible.

I’ll check out the new Flirc remote. With Logitech having killed the Harmony line we’ll need a replacement eventually…

Well you arent actually switching anything - you are just using the keyboard profile to allow changes to some Kodi commands. I found Kodi in Harmony to do 99% of what Plex HTPC needs (current version as older versions had mapping issues).

I’ve got 5 backup 650’s all preloaded with my devices and activities
