Hi to everyone. I have few plex servers installed in openmediavault, to be exact in docker compose. I have it for couple of years and never had an issue with Remote access.
I have server on Nvidia shield and My cloud home as well. All servers are unreachable outside my network.
This is what I did in setrings now and in the past. I went in settings on my local home network, in Remote access i ticked Enable remote access, manually specified port 46000 and in my router port forwarded same port as external and 32400 as internal.
I ticked apply button and instantly it became green.
After disconnecting my wifi and going over mobile network all servers are unreachable. I tried restarting all plex servers (different ports are forwarded for each server) and it still all remain unreachable.
I have wireguard installed on openmediavault but I never had an issue with that.
Hi. What do you mean over cellular will never work? Sorry if I didn’t clarify good enough. In order to test remote access after becoming green over local wifi the only way to test remote remote access is to turn off wifi and enable mobile data on my phone. That way I can check if I can access or play media when out of home. Remote access instantly became red. This worked always in the past. I managed to solve remote access by changing on laptop and mobile phone private dns from automatic setup to manually and inserted google or cloudflare DNS and remote access started to work as before. Now I can access server and play media from anywhere. Hole this will help to someone else.
A change in the network configuration of your phone should have no influence on your Plex server.
Unless your phone is acting as the internet gateway of your server. Which you shouldn’t even try, as it won’t work.
If you are saying that your Plex server is continuing to use your regular landline/cable internet connection, then the Remote acessability should be unchanged – no matter the status of your mobile phone.
One thing you should know is that the Remote accessability status display is showing “accessible” by default. To get a meaningful display, you should always wait a few minutes after enabling or changing the remote connection settings in Plex, so that your server had time to actually test the connection.
