Have you broken/ended support for PS3 version 1.0 ?

Seemingly out of the blue a few weeks ago we stopped being able to use Plex on the PS3, and that was our seamless entertainment evenings all over.

Here’s what happens now (we’re stuck on version 1.0), I select the Plex app, cancel the 1.01 update, sign in, cancel the update again, and this is where it used to just work. Now we get a black overlay that says

"Sorry, there appears to be a problem connecting. Please try again later".

I press OK, and then I get a Plex screen that says

"Oops; a 404 error…That’s “page not found” in human language. You may have mistyped the address or the page may have moved. Let us take you to the main page and we can start all over agin, shall we?"

I can log in on my PS4 (using the 1.01 version) and my Roku in my bedroom, I can log in on iPad, and on my iMac using Plex Web and Plex Media Player. Plex Media Server (and all media) is on a Synology, and everything else Plex is working beautifully as it has for ever.

But in the living room, where the main (ancient) TV and the surround sound are, where we do all our watching, our only way to access Plex is via the PS3, and its now bust.

We can’t upgrade to version 1.01, because our fantastically old (but epic) Sony 60 inch (widescreen but non HD) clearly isn’t supported because the aspect ratio is all wrong on everything in 1.01, but luckily I found out how to downgrade.

Further trouble is that the vast majority of our media isn’t supported via the Plex DLNA client, so we have to watch things via the Synology Diskstation DLNA but then 5.1 isn’t supported so we’re watching everything in stereo (aside from when I re-encode things specifically to work).

What used to work for us so well suddenly stopped. And it’s a pain frankly.

I realise this may not be a top of the pile issue for anyone, as I know we must be one of the last people on the planet stuck with a non HD TV using PS3 (entirely as a media player), but in the hope that there may literally be a button press at your end (one can dream) I’ve decided to finally mention it.

In the meantime, before anyone feels too desperately sorry for us (!) we’ve finally got our eye on the prize of a new 65 inch 4K set for downstairs this year, having put up with the beast downstairs through the inability to upgrade, and then the decision to wait and go straight to 4K, but waiting for it to become affordable.

Disappointed to have no response yet.

As very heavy media watchers, it’s such a let down and annoyance that our current main source of entertainment is via a Plex app that has been broken for weeks, and I have to struggle a work around.

We’ve paid the same as everyone else who gets to enjoy their media on the most current devices and platforms, and until I’m corrected, I can’t see why it would have worked one day, and then not the next? Surely someone could just have a quick look couldn’t they? Please?

I appreciate that PS3 users (especially with an SD set up) must be very few in numbers, and I wouldn’t be doing it if I had any other choice, but my subscription fee is just as valid as the person with the Apple TV on their 4K TV!

Have you enabled Plex Home or is your server to require secure connections ?
The PS3 does not support secure connections

Thanks hthighway for the response.

Unless Gremlins got involved, nothing (knowingly) changed in our set up, everything was working perfectly (to each devices limitations) it just stopped working on the PS3 V1.0 one night.

Plex Home is enabled, and has been for a long time, working across all devices without a problem. There was no change there.

The Secure Server Connection is set to Preferred, again, everything worked perfectly, and still does, just not on the main PS3 running V 1.0. There’s another (bedroom) PS3 which is running V 1.01 which all works fine.
