Previously (several months back?) I have been able to access my WD MyCloud via plex on Apple TV and LG Smart TV. However, I am now unable to do this for a considerable period despite various attempts.
I have just swapped to a new (M1) Apple Mac running the lated macOS…
I have installed Plex Media Server on the mac - I have it to 'open at login - is this correct?
In the Plex website login all I see is the ‘MyCloud Home’ with a warning triangle and ‘Not Available]’. As I say, I have used it before quite satisfactorily. It appears something has changed, but I don’t know what!
The WD My Cloud is connected to the home network via cable and I have also tried directly connecting to a spare ethernet port on the router - no difference.
I’m exasperated! No doubt, and hopefully, it’s something simple…
I’m not sure I’m following your explanation.
- Is there a Plex Media Server running on your MyCloud or are you only using it as storage for the Plex Media Server on your Mac?
- If you have a PMS on the MyCloud…
- What version do you have installed?
- Is the server running/active?
I do not have PMS installed on the MyCloud NAS… I believe I may require it, but unsure how to use install it there. When I previously was able to access the media there I did not have it installed.
All software is the latest available on Plex website.
PMS on mac… Installed but doesn’t appear to run (indicator ‘dot’ only appears for a second or two when ‘double clicking’.
On the MyCloud drive I have enabled Plex with the folder indicating such.
You usually won’t need the server app installed multiple times.
If the server is running/activated on the WD MyCloud, open your browser and navigate to http://[WD MyCloud IP address]:32400/web – this should allow you to complete the setup of the server.
Many thanks - I’ll have a look at that, though thought by selecting the setup Plex on the MyCloud would be sufficient (?)
