Having two users to track who watched what?

Howdy,

I looked up some info on Multiple Users and found the Plex Home information and also found things about having people with separate Plex accounts. I’m not sure which I need or if either will do what I want to hopefully someone can clarify that for me.

I am not a Plex Pass subscriber so that rules out Plex Home from what I can see.

All I want to do is to open Plex and choose if I’m watching a show or if my wife is watching a show so that I can tell what I’ve watched separate from what she’s watched. That’s it. Seems pretty simple but I’m not finding the info on if/how I can do that within one Plex account or if she needs her own just to do that or what.

If we both watch a show together, I’d also need a way to manually mark something as watched from the admin panel or web interface or something as well.

Does that make sense? Can anyone help?

Thanks!

If you are using the same device to watch Plex on, you’ll definitely want ‘Fast user switching’.
And that is only available with a Plex Pass.

There is currently no way to automatically mark an item as ‘watched’ for 2 user accounts at the same time.
You can however,

  1. switch to the other user account
  2. mark the item(s) manually as ‘watched’

OK. That’s what I was thinking I’d need as we have Fire TVs that we run Plex on. Every once in a while my wife will watch something on her laptop but that’s relatively rare.

Thanks!
