Individual Watch Count of same File in Different Libraries

I wish to create seperate libraries for my two kids who watch the same shows but I don’t want to duplicate the files. In other words kid A watches show in their library and it is marked as watch, but kid B hasn’t watched the show yet, so it is still tagged as unwatched in their library.

Is this possible?

At the moment when one kid watches the show, it marks as watched in both libraries.

I would appreciate any help in getting this to work. Cheers.

There is no need to create separate libraries.
Separate user accounts is what is used in Plex to have separate “watched” histories for different people.

I your case, ‘Managed Users’ is the way to go. (Provided your kids are already old enough to handle the ‘Switch User’ routine.)

If every one of them has their own plex client device, it is easier to handle. You simply prepare the device for them by switching into their appropriate user account, then hand it over to them.

Thanks for the heads up on this. I hadn’t thought to attack it this way, so I appreciate your suggestion.

I forgot: if your users have their own, personal Plex client devices, you can activate “Automatically Sign In”.
(The admin must activate this, before switching into the account of a managed user.)

Once activated, it will remember the last-used user account and will return to it as soon as the device is switched on or the Plex app is opened.
So the ‘Select User’ screen is only shown if one actively chooses to ‘Switch User’.
