Just for the heck of it I stopped PMS and moved everything in the "Plug-ins" folder to a backup location. Started PMS and let it recreate the contents. Media flags are OK again! :)
I can confirm this, it looks like the bundles are not getting updated when new releases of PMS are installed. I cleaned mine out and re-started and media flags are indeed back again. I suspect the Media-Flags.bundle is the culprit. I also wonder if the MoviePosterDB.bundle is also the cause of the degraded poster/thumb art. Will test and let you know.
UPDATE: Observing some odd behaviour under RasPlex. I deleted the thumbnail/art caches and rebooted. Once the cache had been rebuilt I can see Media Flags are now listed but they are now separated by white blocks. The white blocks do not appear on any other Plex clients (iOS, Mac PlexHT, ATV). Good new is artwork/thumbnails and posters are all back in HD.
Nice find, deleting everything in the plug-ins folder and restarting PMS fixed the media flags for me too - I didn't even have to do anything in RasPlex, they just appeared as normal.
Yeah i definitely think that the white boxes is a PMS issue. I have some on PG ratings as well, but they will show also on my Ipad Plex App.
So i guess this issue is on the server side (suspecting the last release as far as i am concerned).
For those of you having this issue, if you have another client than Pi poiting to the same PMS, could you check if these white boxes appear also on other clients ?
@digiot : What are you calling thumbs exactly ? media flags ? or poster thumbs ? in 0.1.36, they should have a btter resolution than before (4 x more pixels actually). in 0.1.35 they are smoothr because of the blending dur to to few pixels.
If you can illustrate what you observe with some pitctures, that would help :)
Just updated to 0.1.37, and I can confirm that this fixes the HD artwork issue, at least for the individual title selection in each section; the thumbnails still seem somewhat pixelated. I'll post a screenshot when I get a chance.
On a separate note, performance has drastically improved with this release. Fanouts are almost instant, and sliding between titles is a lot smoother. Thanks!

That makes sense, I meant the poster thumbs and they seem a bit grainy in .36 and .37.
I started having some really bad performance issues though. After clean installs it never caches all my artwork and when browsing through them to load the cash it keeps hanging and eventually crashes badly. A restart brings everything back up but it can't seem to cache all my artwork. I have about 10 sections with anywhere from 20 - 80 pieces of media inside. It's all either 720P or 1080P.
I haven't even started to try and play any of it because browsing through it so slow and usually results in a complete system hang.
Just to be clear, everything works in .35 just the artwork looks crappy;) I did have to force it to stream because a lot of my media is uncompressed BluRay rips in MKV containers. So I have it set to stream at 12Mbs and all is well. As long as I stick to .35!
Well i have checked my library (around 250 movies) and the associated cache is around 100megs, so i’d think that the SD card size, wether its 4 or 8 megs shouldnt be a really limitting factor.
Using du command on ssh should answer your question for your library

yeap, plexweb and all my clients are showing the white boxes,
