HDHomeRun and PLEX for LIVE TV

Working on my configuration that I’ll need to purchase - and just before I pulled the trigger on an HDHOMERUN Extend box - and my outside HD antenna - I realized I may be missing something.

The whole idea here is to watch live TV using HDHOMERUN Extend, from any of me 3 TVs. but I’m suddenly not sure how to do that? My plan was to use PLEX and my ROKU to do so.

However - reading these forums - I’m not so sure?

I am planning on using PlexPass for DVR - that looks great - but I’ll still want LIVE TV, with the ability to change channels, etc…

From what I can tell - HDHOMERUN Extend - doesn’t have a way to be driven from my TVs - and I thought PLEX would do that for me.

Sorry for the questions on HDHOMERUN - I’ll dig further there if it turns out that PLEX isn’t going to do what I thought it would.

I did get some feedback from Silicon Dust - they recommend using an android TV box such as the MI or Nvidia Shield for this.

The downside - is I’d have to purchase 1 for each TV

Yea, I used a Nvidia Shield TV and 2 Mi boxes. The Live Channels App that is available on Android TV once you download the HDHomerun app is great for watching live tv.

There are 2 channel apps for plex that will do this. HDHR Viewer and HDGrandSlam. Search these forums for more info.

I use appletv to wacht live tv with HD homerun. I use The channels app and its a bit pricy. But there is also some free apps to Apple TV.

I tried the Sony Android O.S TV and tried Silcon/HDhomeRun app (purely for the same reason), didn’t work well and froze alot. Plus Plex Android app didn’t play recorded TV file (from my HDHomeRUn).

Its not as elegant, but my Samsung TV did pick up the HDHomeRun channels, via DNLA I think (the same way you would choose a local NAS or network streamer. But you can scroll through and choose the channels you want to watch live.

It sucks, I bought a nice new 65in Sony 4K Android TV last summer and the HDHR doesnt work with it. I refuse to add another Android TV box connected to an Android TV…ridiculous and redundant. I contacted SiliconDust and was told that Sony confirms its an issue with their firmware (android) being 5.1 and that it will be fixed when my TV gets updated to 6.0 Marshmallow. Meanwhile, I paid $2500 for a TV that has been nothing but a frustation for the past 8 months. Ive been patiently waiting and contacted Sony at least 6 times over the past several months but they are in no rush to push it out to their newer TV’s. They are starting with the older 2015 models first which I can understand but it doesnt help ME. The TV is great for the Playstation network built in, casting stuff from phones/tablets, and YouTube, Netflix, Amazon Video, etc but I just cannot watch regular over the air TV via my home network HDHR.

I can’t wait for live TV to be available in Plex!!!

I’m using the silicon dust extend on plex - for live OTA tv AND with Plex Plus for DVR, but with poor results.

The broadcast is very stuttery, unwatchable. I’m hoping to see if optimizing the files will help, or perhpas some other settings to help - but since the signal with HDHOMERUN Viewer (w/o Plex) is even worse - not much hope there

HDGRANDSLAM addon is much better than HDHR V2 which is bascially worthless

HDHR v2 is actually awesome. I also used the grand slam plugin for awhile as I didn’t know HDHR plugin existed.
Once you enter your settings, it works perfect. I find the layout is a little nicer (both work well).

what settings did you use for HDHR V2 - I couldn’t get it to work at all
