Last night I realized that there was new firmware for my four HDHomeRun tuners (one DUAL, one CONNECT and two EXTENDS). I upgraded them and noticed that one of the new features of the new firmware is I can now upgrade the firmware from the web interface for the EXTEND models; the normal method is via the HDHomeRun Setup app. It got me thinking though, is it possible for PMS to now upgrade the firmware of HDHomeRun devices either automatically or at least do it from within PMS? I didn’t know there WAS a firmware update last month (20170815) but started the HDHomeRun Setup app last night and it told me there was a new version.
I ran into a problem recently where my Plex DVR wasn’t recording. It ended up that my 3 HDHomeRun tuners needed firmware upgrades. However, there was no indication from Plex that there was an issue other than the transcoder error that was on my recordings. If the Plex Media Server could notify or automatically update the tuner firmware, it would be great!
When I bought a new secondary HDHomeRun Prime I eventually noticed that the Plex recordings were often truncated to ~6 min or so. It took me awhile to figure out that a firmware update for the HDHomeRun Prime was needed. After the update the Plex issue was fixed.
Yeah, it would be great if there were Plex notifications for HDHomeRun firmware updates.
I don’t really know any other way to do it other than manually checking the website for new downloads. If you don’t want to do it manually, you can always use an online service which scrubs a specified webpage for changes and alerts you when it detects changes or specific changed elements within the page. I currently use an online service to automatically check for me and it works just fine…a little tinkering at first, but nothing complicated at all.
You can sign up on hdhomerun to have any change log emailed to you so you always know of an update, this is what I do.
