Yes, TiVo does record those cable channels.
But, as far as I remember (it’s been a few years since I’ve had a TiVo), it doesn’t make it easy for you to copy the files out of its internal storage.
Plex’s DVR, on the other hand, creates these .ts files you can easily access directly, copy them, distribute them, etc.
I don’t know. I’m just wondering out loud here.
You know how it is when these industries get litigious. They try to shut everyone down by suing everyone and their pets too.
I’ve created a file called epg123.xmltv using epg123 with guide data created from a lineup for my OTA at my ZIP Code combined with the custom json lineup for the HDHomeRun Premium TV Channels. This xmltv imports just fine in Emby DVR but I get “Invalid or missing file” with Plex DVR.
In this process I’ve had the Plex Server go down on me and would not come back up without logging out the user and logging back in then manually restarting the server. I’m on Server Version 1.13.6.5339, which I believe is the latest beta server.
Please support the channel line up for this Premium TV Service. I have this working by picking a local cable line-up and matching all the channels, but I can’t get past the mix of Pacific and Eastern time zones. Since I am in the central time zone the guide data matches for the Eastern and National channels, but the timing of the shows that are Pacific feeds is off. For now I just disabled those channels.
I find it interesting support wasn’t ready at launch for this. I bet Plex is driving a lot of HDHR product sales and would have thought they were viewed as a strategic partner. As such they should have had advanced notice of this feature so they could support it and drive more Premium subscriptions. It would also drive more Plex subscriptions if support were available.
The other issue as others have noted is the quality of the stream with the Silicon Dust Premium TV Service. It’s not yet ready for prime time. I would imagine that the Plex team is already working on the tuner integration - but the quality on the service needs to be addressed also. I like the idea of having everything controlled by Plex - but so far IMO the cons outweigh the pros. SlingTV at the moment is hands down the better value, especially giving you more choice. The Premium TV services forces you to pay for the Disney Networks (ESPN, etc.) and Fox News which add about $10 / month. You can avoid that and pay only $25 with SlingTV. SlingTV is the only service so far that gives you more choices.
No, they have a cloud DVR service for $5 / month - which you may or may not need or want because many of the networks provide on-demand viewing - which as far as I can tell isn’t an option on the Premium TV service. I do understand the value of being able to store recordings locally - but IMO that value is greatly diminished if the recordings are of mediocre quality.
I too did the same thing, not all antenna channels had a match, but how did you over come the premium channel guide data being an hour off. My OTA channels are correct but all my premium channels are one hour ahead
i guess i have terrible eyesight. I hooked it up to my 65" LG 4K last night and watched live. Looked pretty good to me, course I was all wired to the TV from my HD homerun. Didn’t look bad at all, watching a regular sitcom type show.
I can’t remember the specs exactly, but think it was 720p, 5MB/s reported by the TV. Seemed pretty good to me, for a signal I can record with my own stuff
Biggest issue seems to be guide data as some channels are west and some east. It would be nice if Plex had guide data for this service. Which would have to include local channels as well of course.
I use epg123 and I set it up to create an xmltv file in the epg123 default location of c:/epg123/output/epg123.xmltv.
When setting up the DVR in Plex using this path and file I get an error stating, “Invalid or missing file”. Does Plex only want a *.xml file extension for xmltv or should *.xmltv work?
Really want to record these PremiumTV Channels with Plex and ComSkip.
Nope. I reverted to using a local Uverse Lineup but am now missing a few local sub channels I like to record from, like “Mexico, One Plate at a Time” on LiveWell KABC 7.2.
I think I got it figured out. I’m on a linux box and it is working. Will try to put on my windows PMS tonight. I have 3 channel line ups in my EPG123 configuration and I am not including any check boxes in the configuration screen. Only the create XMLTV file box is checked. Within that, I only have Include Channel Numbers . I’m in Dallas, TX so I have 1 Lineup for the Premium Pacific channels, 1 line up for the Premium EASTERN channels (using ATT UVERSE Dallas) and another line-up for OTA. Watch out for duplication between OTA and EASTERN lineup in EPG. When I had duplication here, PLEX would fail when trying to match channels. EPG did something nice, it highlighted them in RED on that OTA line up, so I knew which ones I should remove. For example, 2.1 here is DAYSTAR (KDTNDT) OTA however, ATT Uverse has this channel as 563. So I added the u-verse 563 DAYSTR to my Eastern lineup and removed 2.1 from my OTA channel line up. Looks like its working great, will update if I have success with windows.

working on windows 7 machine as well.

Some news channels showing up as movies. For example, Local Fox 4 News at 5 is coming through as a movie instead of a TV show…
–update–
many shows showing as movies. Switching back to u-verse program guide and incorrect showings for Pacific channels. Man what a mess.

So…I realized that shows in the EPG xml have different tags. So I came up with this to fix most of the news and tv shows showing up under movies. Its not pretty but I’m not a programmer and it works well enough for me.
Once you have your xmltv file, open it and do a find and replace.
find: system=“dd_progid”>SH
replace: system=“xmltv_ns”>2017.
This won’t work for all of them but it fixed 75% of my issues and can limp along with it until Plex programs for it or SiliconDust manages to get the east coast programming for the east coast (…seriously what happened there) I can record the news for my parents and record the correct Pacific airings on NIK for my kids. Also, you’ll have some very large episode numbers
by the way, the timezone chart on SiliconDust website was helpful in determining which channels should be in which lineup. https://www.silicondust.com/premium-tv/#compare (click the Timezone Chart Button)
For my Pacific lineup I went with ATT U-VERSE Digital (Los Angeles) (I used zipcode 90210 because well…why the hell not.
