The upcoming HDHomeRun Scribe is a SiliconDust hardware DVR that has dual HDHomeRun OTA tuners and a HDD for recordings and the HDHomeRun Servio has a HDD for for storage.
Does anyone know if Plex will be able to access those tuners like it does with other SiliconDust HDHomeRun tuners? Also does anyone know if the internal HDD’s for the Scribe and Servio will be accessible by Plex to add recordings to its library?
I was thinking in terms of the HDHomeRun DVR software performing the scheduled recordings with respect to “HDD for recordings” and Plex accessing those recordings with respect to “HDD for storage”.
Your right I’ll see about asking in the SiliconDust forums as they would have a better idea as to what they would allow.
I made an assumption that could be incorrect. My assumption was that the Scribe and the Servio were essentially no different functionally then current 3rd party PC/NAS solutions combined with the SiliconDust HDHomeRun tuners and DVR software. Further, if the ATSC recordings were not DRM restricted there would be no barriers to accessing the HDD and or the recordings.
But again I could be wrong.
Its worth asking SiliconDust for more info in this regard.
Dude, I hadn’t had my caffeine yet when I responded to your post. I didn’t realize it was you If you ask silicon dust let us know what they have to say
Glad to see you got your caffeine. Unfortunately I can no longer partake in caffeine because even small amounts give me the jitters.
I’m currently looking into these questions over at the SiliconDust forums now. They have a number of threads going including one on the Ted Head / Lon video. Some of these threads are more then a couple of pages deep though. I’ll do my due diligence first by reading what is available on the subject before posting a question.
I’ll be sure to post whatever I can find assuming I can find something of relevance.
Edit:
OK, I think I found a partial answer about accessing the HDD of the Scribe and Servio via third party application:
