I have been viewing TV channels via HDHR Viewer on Plex, but with recent upgrades it has stopped working. HDHomeRun VIEW still works fine on any network connected PC, so the SiliconDust HDHomeRun Connect box is working fine. The HDHR Viewer is still there in the Plex Channels, and when I open it the TV channel listing is correct, and I can select a channel - all looks normal. When I click the Play arrow for the TV Channel the wheel spins for a few seconds and I get “There was a problem playing this item.” The activity log on HDHomeRun box shows the channel streaming as normal.
What is the latest HDHR Viewer for the HDHoneRun Connect - is it HDHR Viwer 2 Beta? How should I set up the parameters in the HDHR Viewer 2 Settings window?
Check out this thread:
The first post has some notes about transcoding issues with Plex server 0.9.17.x and newer.
Thanks, but unfortunately the Resolution method suggested by Z9 doesn’t work for my HDHomeRun Connect. Does anyone know if there is another way to create the correct decoder in the Plex support folder to handle the video generated by HDHomeRun Connect?
what version of plex are you running? I have had hdhomerun view 2 (beta) and the regular one working in plex. I set them up and was all good. However I started using nextpvr for my live tv on devices and relied on plex/hdhomerun to stream outside the house. I stopped streaming outside the house and upgraded plex. I don’t know when it broke but I just went back to 0.9.15 plex and now I’m working again.
I just came online to start searching to see if anyone is looking at updating the code… hopefully…
I am currently running PMS 1.1.2.268, which is the latest version. Since PMS was upgraded beyond 0.9.15 a number of users have noted that HDHomeRun Viewer 2 (Beta) does not stream with PMS, but there still does not seem to be a fix available.
I have been in touch with SiliconDust who imply that it is on their list of future enhancements. It would be really great if Z9 or someone who understands the true nature of the incompatibility could come up with a fix for Viewer 2, as I don’t want to wind back my PMS install to 0.9.15 just to get live TV streaming working seamlessly again as it used to.
I will try using NextPVR Home, but would really love to have all media integrated within the one system, and that used to be Plex, a joy to use, until the live TV Channel integration fell over earlier this year.
Tried to set up NextPVR Home but it doesn’t seem to work here in NZ. When using the Resolution method published by Zynine
“http://hdhrviewer.zynine.net/pms-upgraded-to-0-9-17-x-and-above-video-stops-working/”)
- I can download and save an MPEG clip via the HDHome Run and it plays fine on my PC, and plays fine within Plex Media Server as a Home Video clip - no problems at all. It shows properties as using video codec H264 and audio English(AAC_LATM Stereo). But when I try to play the same TV program live within Plex Channels I still continue to get “There was a problem playing this item.” every time. Very frustrating.
Have upgraded both Plex MS and HDHomeRun firmware recently so thought I would check this problem out again. After many hours of trying various configurations and settings I found that if I configure HDHR Viewer settings with “Enable XMLTV” to ON, and “Pre-transcode (HDTC-2US only)” to AUTO, then I could get some TV channels to play after a start-up (wheel-spin) of about 10 - 30 seconds, but only using Plex.TV from a browser (Chrome in this case) on my Plex server or my desktop PC. However, the channels would not play from the Plex App on my PC or any other device I tried (iPad or iPhone) - the wheel would spin for a while, then the message “The server is not powerful enough to convert this video for smooth playback” would appear. This is really odd, because my Plex server is an Intel i7 machine with 16G of RAM, 4TB of Raid and is only idling along. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Hi - I’m not sure if this will help you or not, but I had a similar problem. I have a HDHomeRun Extend. The Extend has the ability to transcode on the device. I selected “hdhomerun” under XMLTV Mode then I changed the Pre-transcode (HDTC-2US only) to “Mobile”. It’s working!! However, it cuts out a little but not bad.
Please note I think you need the HdHomeRun Extend as the HdHomeRun Connect does not have the ability to transcode on the device.
