Still does not check for usage of the HDHomerun tuner before trying to record or play livetv it simply fails … even if you have other tuners not being used … this makes it a failure in my household. Tested it out and was watching a DRM channel using HDHOMERUN and every time I tried to watch liveTV using the PLEX App in other devices. it tried to use the occupied tuner and it failed.
I have used NPVR, Plex DVR, and SD DVR or viewing app - none of them “talk” to each other or seem to query the Prime for next available tuner unless the tuner requests all came from the “same” application. Safe bet is to pick just one app and use that. Part of the reason I got a second Prime and another cable card, isolating 3 tuners each for two applications
Are you saying you could view a DRM channel in the plex app?
No - for now, my cable provider, WOW!, marks all channels in my package as “copy freely” - not sure if this is true for the “premiums” like HBO etc, which I do not have. My primary point is the tuner and channel management across multiple applications sharing tuners is not well-implemented, in my experience. One would think the HDHR would simply select the “next available” tuner for each individual tuning request, but that does not seem to be what happens with separate applications sharing a device.

NO not in Plex using the HDHomeRun App … the HDHomerun App is currently the only way to view DRM channels besides WMC.

The HDHomerun has that ability all other Apps I have used if a channel is in use it moves to the next available tuner … for example these use proper sharing EMBY … HDHomerun DVR … nextPVR the only one that fails to use this feature is PLEX. If the PLEX DVR hits a tuner in use by another APP it just barfs … no real error message.

When was the last time you used these applications they do query for tuner use. I share 4 connects and 2 primes between SageTV … EMBY and HDHOMERUN App and they all query the tuner and if in use move on.
Limiting tuners to 1 APP … is not why I invested in the Primes… I could have 3 people in my household watching DRM channels at 1 time that would leave me no Primes for recording if I limit tuners to certain apps.
Plex coders can easily implement checking for tuners if they really want to,
In my experience NPVR does not play any nicer than Plex
If you are a Prime Tuner user with some DRM channels … and use The HDHomerun APP to view these channels there is no way you can use the PLEX DVR to record the non DRM channels the way it is now … needing exclusive use of the tuners… for now I have disabled the DVR in Plex … will keep checking to see if this improves in the future. Thanks.
