have been away for a while and was wondering if there’s been any progress in terms of hdr support for pmp (windows desktop) + mpv? if the answer is no, is this something that will likely never happen? thanks!
Im also waiting for this but seems plex are not interested in moving with the times just riding the cash cow now :(, yet madvr and mpc-hc (all totaly free) have been able to to HDR for years !!!
i stopped my plex pass for this exact reason, up untill HDR in movies was released i was happy with plex, but there seemingly un willingness to implament this basic function has soured my taste for them
why is it so difficult to add a pass HDR meta data to display option ???
i checked out the mpv/hdr thread but it seems like it’s still very much a work in progress and most likely will never hold a candle to madvr, especially madvr’s 112b and 113 releases, once it’s even finished…
i just now revisited kodi (artic zephyr 2 skin) and it’s great, works seamlessly with potplayer + madvr as an external player, can’t believe i’ve messed around with mpv/hdr/plex for so long… that said, i’m forced to keep plex because my family (wife and college kids) is tied to it, they use it for streaming on their mobile devices which, really, is what plex is best suited for imo, a good solution if you’re not interested in the best video quality available which, let’s face it, makes up the large majority of video users… but for high quality critical viewing, in a home theater environment with a projector, plex certainly isn’t the answer, not when madvr is available…
there is a plex for kodi addon, maybe you can get the best of both worlds with that?
i’ve tried it and i don’t like it all, in fact i think it’s pretty ugly even though (for some reason) many think it looks exactly like plex, which i don’t get… when i used kodi for a bit many years ago the external player function was a bit clunky, maybe i wasn’t doing it right, but now it’s absolutely seamless… this, coupled with a great kodi skin and kodi’s lightning fast navigation (plus you don’t have to wait for posters to refresh as you scroll through a page) makes it a no-brainer… that said, i’m a guy that just uses these front-ends and/or servers for my movie library, nothing else, so i may feel differently if i used it for music, tv, gaming, etc., etc…
