Headphone audio wont work on some media files

Not really a plex issue but you guys here know a lot more about this stuff then I do
We use a avantree tc417 bluetooth receiver to connect to 2 bluetooth headphones and watch movies while we have our baby fall asleep with us

Now on the TV if we stream anything such as netflix, regular tv, youtube the headphones work perfectly with the bluetooth transmitter
However I discovered on some movies I play through plex that are mkv files play the audio through the TV speakers fine but when I try through the headphones bluetooth receiver I hear nothing

Here is some info of the file that it did not work:
1080p (H.264)
Unknown (AAC 5.1)

here is info of the file where it did work:
1080p (H.264)
AUDIO
Unknown (AAC Stereo)

Could be the 5.1 sound not liking it. But the recent one I tried that did work says Unknown ACC Stereo

any ideas?

ok so it is actually plex. I copied the movies onto a USB drive and connected my Kodi to the TV and played it through that. I could hear the sound without problems on my headphone bluetooth receiver
any ideas?
