Help - Can't claim server DS218+

I have had PMS running flawlessly for a long time. Suddenly, it stopped working. I ended up reinstalling PMS on my DS 218+. Now I’m getting “Server Not Claimed” message.

I have read numerous strings on this, but the DNS and other fixes don’t fix the issue. (notification says server is unclaimed and not secure, I click “Claim Server” and it just spins).

I don’t know if this is related or not, but I also cannot watch a good portion of my media in the Plex brower app (movies I have watched via Plex before). I am now getting this message: “Conversion failed. A required codec could not be found or failed to install.”

Thanks for any help!

Looks like some internet access / network configuration issue.

All requests from Plex Media Server process to plex.tv are not getting out and failing with:

Failed to connect to plex.tv port 443: No route to host)

Thanks very much. How do I fix this?

I have done what you suggested. After restarting Plex, it starts as if for the first time (welcome image explaining how Plex works, server setup (it finds my DS but then gives an error saying “There was a problem claiming this server”) and then it sees my libraries). But this doesn’t fix the problem.

It just gets more confusing. It appears there is some network connectivity issue, but it makes no sense to me. I’m doing this on a laptop. I log into DS. Open Package Center. Launch Plex. Plex opens in a new browser tab. I can see my libraries. I can play some of my media. On others, I get “Codec not found” errors. But, I can’t claim the server, and I get an error message in the navigation bar that says “The server “DS218plus” is unreachable. Make sure it’s running, double check your network, and try again.” [But if the server is unreachable, how is it playing my media??]

When I use the Plex app on my TV, I can initially see the names of my libraries when the app launches. These then disappear, and I can’t see any of my libraries or media (computer and TV are on the same wifi network).

In DS, I can see my libraries and media. I can see the Plex folder in File Station. Plex has permissions to read/write library folders.

Strangely, when I try to enable quickconnect, it says "Domain name can’t be resolved. Please change your DNS server address to 8.8.8.8. I have done this, and I still get this error. Also, when I go to the Package Center, I cannot view “All” or “Beta” I can only see what is installed. I assume this means my DS is not connecting to the internet, but I can’t seem to figure out how to fix this.

Any idea wtf is going on here?

Thanks very much.

(In Plex Settings, I see no “Server” tab, so I don’t know how to provide the logs)

Sorry for any confusion, I am doing this locally. Everything is on the same network. I only mentioned quickconnect because that also gave an error that indicates a network issue.

When accessing plex, I’m typing in exactly what you wrote.

I have moved the few files that were (inadvertently) left in the Video folder. I repeated the steps above and am still getting the same errors.

I just did this again, same result. Here’s a screenshot of what I get when I restart Plex and log back in. It sees the server. It gets hung on this screen for about 5 minutes, finally giving me a “problem claiming the server” error.

I had assumed my laptop is on the same network (ie that there were subnets), but maybe I’m dumb. I’m using an Orbi mesh router. The DS218+ is connected by cable to the router. Laptop is connected via wifi. I guess the router could have created different subnets? How do I check what subnet the DS218+ is on?

I really appreciate the help.

Just found this. Yes, they are both on the same subnet.

Firewall is disabled.

The file station shows no files in the video folder. I’m not sure what would be getting saved there, but I changed the permissions so Plex can read/write to all folders.

Plex can obviously see the server, since it is displaying my libraries and allowing me to play some media. But there is definitely some connection issue.

At what point do I do a factory reset on the DS218+ and just start over?

Well I seem to have thoroughly botched this now.

When I launch Plex from my DS218+, Plex no longer even sees the server or my media. Instead I get this:

I have stopped and restarted. I even uninstalled and reinstalled Plex on the server, and I get the same error message. Why would Plex not see the server, if I’m launching Plex from the server? What am I missing here?
