[Help] Issues with launching Plex Media Server

Server Version#:1.16.5.1554

I had issues Plex Media Server after the last update, so I uninstalled and reinstalled. Now when I try to launch Plex, the Plex icon doesn’t show up in task bar. Task manager shows that “Plex Media Server (32 bit)” is running, but it does not show up in task bar and I cannot access it through web.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling many times, deleting the Plex folders in Appdata/Local and the one in program files. I’ve also tried restarting my computer. Any help is appreciated thanks. If I am missing any information feel free to ask.

Can you try and provide your logs.

What happens if you open your web browser on this machine and call up the URL http://127.0.0.1:32400/web

I get the following

This site can’t be reached

127.0.0.1 refused to connect.

Try:

ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED

Then it is indeed logs inspection time.

Sorry for the late reply. As a new user i need approval of posts before i can post another.
Here are the logs
Plex Update Service.1.log (2.1 KB) Plex Update Service.log (1.4 KB)

Hmm. Were those the only two logs found in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\Logs ?

I suspect you moved the Plex data folder away from its default location.
And this location is either invalid or no longer existing.

Make sure there are no processes named like plex are still running. If necessary, close them using the Task Manager.

Open regedit.exe and go to the branch
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Plex, Inc.\Plex Media Server
look out for the key LocalAppDataPath and see which path it contains.

Maybe you told Plex to use an external drive, and this drive now suddenly has a different drive letter?
In this case I recommend to change the letter of this drive back, to what it used before.

If changing the drive letter is not possible,
or if the registry key only contains gibberish, you can delete this key LocalAppDataPath totally, which will cause Plex to fall back to the default location.

Or type(copy&paste works well) this in the startmenu search or run box(Win+R)

cmd /k REG QUERY "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Plex, Inc.\Plex Media Server" /v "LocalAppDataPath"

This was the issue, thanks. Why did it not default back to C:\ drive after I uninstalled and in the installer selected to use C;/ drive?

Selecting C: is just to install PMS. The installer does not handle transcoder/localapp path.

The uninstaller will not delete these entries. Reasons for this among others is you can be uninstalling to “upgrade”. Some people do it that way. Others are the uninstaller may not be set to uninstall keys/values that the installer didn’t explicitly create. Another example of this is the uninstaller will not delete %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server location.
