Hi, hope someone can help - I am on windows 10 and used Plex for ages. Recently got an email from Plex saying about a password reset which I did. Logging back on, I lost access to my server, it was saying offline. So I opted to do a reinstall and now there’s no server listed at all when I log in. Totally stuck - hope someone can help!
Cheers
Euan
Thanks Otto, really appreciate you coming back to me. I’ve seen the ‘claim this server’ in settings a while back when I had problems. This time Plex doesn’t recognise any server at all, so nothing to claim. Before I press ahead with the instructions in the link you’ve posted for me, can I check that under these circumstances, this is still the correct course of action?
Many thanks again!
Euan
Positive.
Ok, just tried that (method 1) and it hasn’t worked. I note that when I try to log into Plex I get the ‘log in with’ box with the various options - Email, apple etc. There’s the disclaimer below in your instructions that says this type of log in isn’t supported so I guess this might be the issue?
Is there a way to log in without that box?
Method 2 honestly looks a little too technical for me I think Otto. What other options are open for me to try?
I also just noticed that under authorised devices, I can see my server there (and only there) but it lists the operating system at the bottom as Linux 9.4.0-191 which is really weird as I don’t use Linux and never have? Does that shed any more light on it? Thanks again.
That is your Western Digital NAS device, on which your Plex server is running.
It uses Linux as its operating system.
So your Plex server is not using Windows.
Which also means that the linked method above unfortunately won’t work at all for you.
I have no experience with these types of devices.
Unless you can somehow gain access to it via a “remote shell” / “terminal window”, it may not be possible at all to repair your access permissions.
Which only leaves the “nuclear option”, of removing the Plex Server app from this NAS completely and setting it up anew.
What a nightmare from a simple pw reset🤦🏻♂️. I knew I should’ve just left it alone. Thanks again for your help Otto, I think I’ll go the nuclear option. Do you know any links to articles that I could follow to do that? Would it have to be done on the WD application or on Plex files in my C drive?
Sorry, I have no experience with that NAS.
Most likely you need to access its internal configuration menu.
The only information I’ve found is this, which might be very outdated: https://support.plex.tv/articles/115003310834-western-digital-my-cloud-home/
