what files did you copy, and if it’s the server files then did you restart?
“C:\Users\debbi\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server”
I made sure server was not running, copied the files, then rebooted computer. Launched Plex Server and web app and can’t see my libraries.
Are the libraries have the same file location address?
Just making sure all the boxes are checked
yes the libraries are on an external drive and that drive is attached to the new computer
I’m having a similar issue.
I built a second computer to be used as a media server using a hard drive I pulled from an old laptop running Windows 7 Ultimate to save $100 or so. I pulled the media drive from my gaming rig and installed it in the new computer. When i tried to run plex (after updating everything) I realized it was still trying to run off the gaming rig, signed out and tried again but it was still messing up. I gave up on that and made a new account and tried again. I uninstalled the PMS and reinstalled it from the link in the web app. After that I got nothing, it never asked me to select the folders to set up or anything. What’s going on and how do I fix this mess?
you have to install the server in the new computer, then in the new server, go to settings > Authorize devices, and you have to remove the older server, then if the path is the same it should work
When you tried to do the reinstall you didn’t remove any of the information from the user/appdata/local/plex files. so it thought you were running the old install.
Ah ok, I had run CCleaner but I guess that was after I had reinstalled it. I’ll give that a try when I get back home.
ok so I just tried it again and I got a new window saying updating libraries, but after that nothing happened it didn’t ask me to set up libraries or anything. I had gone to C:/users/“username”/appdata/local and deleted the entire Plex Media Server folder after uninstalling the PMS and then reinstalled after the deletion
Did you restart the computer at anytime during this process?
Were the library locations correct?
If these things were done then you may need to delete everything again and go to the registry and delete the Plex files, Then restart and reinstall.
Every time I try and do something like your are trying (using preinstalled drive to new computer). i have always had issues that required registry tweeking.
That sort of fixed it. It let me add the libraries, but now it says “There was an unexpected error loading this library” and it says that for all the libraries and the home page. So here I am, back in the forums like it says
The external drive may be listed differently than it was on the old computer, It would be best to have not transferred Plex files to new install. Try setting up a new library to that drive and see what happens
