Please someone tell me if the CO-Star LT has a PLEX APP? and can you install APPS on this device or is it only pre-loaded apps? I have searched the net for the answer for over an hour, then I called Vizio and the guy put me on hold for 15 mins and then came back and told me its android and yes but very unconvincingly because when I asked he's sure he's not talking about the Original model that has GoogleTV, he sounded clueless to what I was talking about again but said yes anyway. so please if you own this device, let me know. This seems perfect for my parents who are older, the LT interface seems like something they could handle so with my fingers crosses, please tell me it has a PLEX app. Thank you in advance
If I am not mistaken the LT is not Android based. It runs the same stuff the Vizio Smart TV's run. In that case there is not a Plex app. 99.9% sure.
You might be able to use DLNA
the original costar is an android device that has access to the google play store. the app available for it just the Plex android/googltv app.

Thank you, that is what I thought. Much appreciated. Any reccomendations on a unit that is easy interface such as the smart TV apps that has PLEX and has HDMI in and out? Having the cable box plugged into one unit also is what I want because they are not ones to switch the source. Old people just don't like change lol.. anyway, thanks again
I have two of the Co-Stars that run Google TV but I would not recommend them. Both have died at some point and had to be replaced (which Vizio did hassle free) and they frequently have to be rebooted.
My brother has a Netgear Neo TV Prime that he says works well (he had a co-star that he ditched for it). Again watch out because there is an android and a non-android version
I have also seen positive things about the Sony Google TV's in the forums
I have a Sony GS7/8 which i like alot. but if you don't have to buy now you might want to wait as new Android TV devices ( which is different than Google TV ) may come out later this year. if your going to go the google route
Many people also use Roku devices which have a Plex app. but i have never used one myself

If you want HDMI in and out, to have cable/satellite pass-through on the media player with screen overlay, right now you are pretty much stuck with Google TV boxes: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_TV The only other things out there that I know of are Xbox One or a PC; there are some more expensive bluray players with HDMI pass through, but as far as I can tell all they do is input/source switching, not screen overlay.
Android TV boxes are supposed to be available at some point, but I have yet to see a date from any manufacturers; at least some of those boxes (see Youtube videos of the Hisense Pulse Pro) look like they will have HDMI pass-through with overlay similar to Google TV boxes.
I have 2 Sony NSZ-GS7s on my main TVs, and they work pretty well, but Google TV is pretty much dead: there are many streaming services which are not available (like Hulu+ and basically all network and cable channels) and it's very unlikely they will ever become available, or that Google TV itself will ever see another update. I would not buy a Google TV box today unless it was pretty cheap.
If your parents are savvy with switching the source/input on the TV to switch back and forth between cable/satellite and a bluray/DVD player, I would get a Roku 3 and connect it to another TV input (HDMI-only): it is absolutely the easiest-to-use box on the market, requires no tech support, has Plex, and has many, many internet streaming channels.

The Roku has the easiest to use interface and is by far the most stable.
If the input switching is still an issue you could add a Logitech Harmony remote so it is just one button push.
