Help please with complex networking setup

Hello-

I have the same problem as many, with the dreaded “not available outside the house” message. Here is my setup:

ATT Modem in bridge mode —> Netgear Orbi as main household router —-> Connection to 2nd router (ASUS using Merlin firmware) setup as VPN router on different subnet as Orbi. (Have static IP for ASUS router on ORBI, and static IP for Media Server on ASUS router.).

I tried port forwarding on the ASUS only, but no dice. (Seen as closed on the can you see me website. ). I then added another port forward on the Orbi using ASUS static IP as internal IP and same port, but that didn’t help either.

I have intermediate knowledge in the area of networking, so I’m out of ideas now. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Getting port forwarding working through two routers can be frustrating. I would suggest you try moving the Media Server to the Orbi temporarily, modify the Orbi port forwarding, and see if you can access the Media Server. from outside the house. If you can’t, you will never be able to access it through the ASUS. Once you have the Media Server working on the Orbi you can move it back to the ASUS and work on getting it working there.
