[HELP] Plex running in Nvidia Shield 2017 (Running out of storage)

Just realised that in the OP the same issue was there - it’s a large data file not cache. But I’m assuming that for some people updating has fixed the issue? Nothing has changed for me and even though I’ve turned off the intro detect and video thumbnail features and optimised, I’ve still got a huge 8gb data file in internal storage

Did the update solve the issue for you? I Am in the same position as you but nothing changed with the update.

I also have the 8gb data file on internal storage - seemingly the exact same issue as the original poster - the update did nothing. Any ideas what is happening?

This is fantastic. Does this finally offer the opportunity to use the sync feature for movies on the Shield? It’s been impossible to sync anything that is greater than the internal storage because the transcoder temp directory is located on the internal storage. Check out this issue for a more detailed explanation of the limitation: Change Sync Transcode Location @kikeminchas

I’m glad to hear that as a developer you use the SHIELD as your main server!

edit–I don’t see the option to change ‘transcoder temp directory’, either on the Shield or in the PMS settings. Is it the “Transcoder temporary directory” in Settings -> Transcoder? Do we manually input the external storage drive there?

After the update issue is fixed. I am not facing issue now. Skip works fine in TV shows and Documentaries.

And did your big 8gb data file just disappear from the internal storage? Did you need to do anything at all? Mine is still there and I can’t see any option to do anything.

ah i’ve just realised that you’d already cleared your data. it sounds like i’m going to have to do that but nobody wants to be the one to give me the good news.

Yes, you need to specify the location manually. There are some answers above explaining how to input the correct path.
Regarding the sync feature, I’m afraid is still not working. Syncing any big content to my Android phone still fails. I didn’t check anymore on this issue to be honest, I switched months ago to the media app provided by my NAS. I can at least download a full movie to my phone without issues would have been nice to use Plex to get smaller files though…

I don’t get it. If I change this setting are you saying that the sync temporary directory is different from the transcoder temporary directory? @StSimm1

Yes, it is different. I’m talking by heart now since I did all this testing months ago so maybe something might have changed. I think the crucial part here is not the transcoder temp directory. Since we cannot specify a temp directory for sync I was under the impression once we could move Plex metadata and database to a external USB drive the sync would go along but this doesn’t seem to be the case. The sync is still trying to be stored in the internal memory. Log files from PMS complain about not enough space and sync fails.

Plz. Update needed. I want to use external driver’s space

instead of Internal Cache folder. Cache folder took too much space.

I moved pms storage location to external, but cache folder don’t move.

I have to reset shied and everthing.(so i lose all meta data)

This is critical.

Other things works fine except those cache folder.

In all clean-uped setting, internal storage’s cache folder gettig bigger now,

AGAIN!!

plex team need to change ‘cache folder to external drive’ plz.
(when user set pms storage to external)
