Awhile back i had alot of help here and we still never could figure out what the issue was, Plex was transcoding my videos anytime someone streamed them. What i am trying to determine is when they are streamed are they at a set value? Or does the quality of my video improve the quality my friends are watching. If i upload 1080p instead of 720p videos will that mean better quality watching for my friends or do they watch a set value regardless. Ive attached two current streams. Thanks for the help!
Plex Media Server version? 1.28.x, 1.29,x, etc
Platform (Win/Mac/Linux/etc)?
The problem is the Indirect connection. The stream is being tunneled through servers at plex.tv and is limited to 2 Mbps (1 Mbps w/o a Plex Pass).
If those devices are local, then you’ve some local network problems to fix.
If those devices are remote, then your remote access is not working correctly.
For remote access issues, the port forwarding statement in your router must align with how your Plex server is configured. Review the thread from June and make sure things are configured correctly. If it still does not work, then we can go over things again.
I’m beyond trying to avoid transcoding, I spent a good three weeks here, with lots of help from here and with contacting my internet provider. All I want to know is if all things are equal will my friends benefit in quality from a 1080p video vs a 720p if both are transcoded and everything else is equal?
My guess would be that the quality would be identical. In both cases because the resolution is being transcoded to SD video (likely 480p)
In a full frame video 1080p would be 1920X1080 transcoded to approx. 720 X404, and the 720p (1280 X 720) version would also be transcoded to approx. 720 X 404. Your friends would not likely see a difference between the two.
