Help - show coming up as wrong season!

Show in question is Survivor Australia. It had 2 “pre season” series (1 and 2) that are not consistently referenced, so several years after “season 2” released, a different producing company acquired the rights, and started over with the season numbering (again, not all sources agree on the numbering).

So, my issue is that I have what 10play refers to as season 5 in files named like “Survivor Australia s05exx.mp4”, however I am watching them out of season order, and I have already watched Season 7. Plex is recognizing S05 as S07, and even when I browse to the folder structure and manually pick s05e01, it starts playing s07e01, and lists all the metadata for that season.

So, I have 2 questions I hope someone can help with!

  1. Is there a way to force Plex to play the exact file I click on? (Every time). I don’t mind browsing to it, but can’t seem to get that file to play.
  2. Longer term, any suggestions on how to fix the library so that it has the right seasons?

Thank you in advance - I appreciate any help offered!

This is how the TVDB has it

You have to number the seasons on your file system according to the season numbers listed on the left

I assume the numbering you have follows the season numbers they have listed on the right?

sorry for the delay in response… been a bit crazy

Thank you for that - so my numbering was following the season numbering on the right (as you suggested) - other than re-naming the seasons, then, how do I go about “fixing” Plex to reflect things correctly?

i.e. I can re-name the seasons (and had tried that prior to the post), however Plex was still confused as to what I had watched already -vs- not, and kept showing the wrong shows, even though they were now named correctly.

The Plex dance ought to fix the naming.
However, it will probably not fix the “watched” status. You’ll have to fix that manually.
