I need help upgrading my QNAP Nas server firmware to the new build. I got an email from Plex yesterday saying “Plex Media Server Update Required”

HELP!!

Mod-Edit: adding the announcement link as a reference for other users with a similar model

Can you upgrade to QTS 4.3 ?

To my knowledge, which was per QNAP’s direction, QTS 4.3 isn’t available for your NAS (they discontinued support) nor are any PMS versions above 1.15.0.

PMS requires glibc 2.14.1 as of PMS 1.15.0 which I believe isn’t available to you.

Can you confirm you are indeed QTS version locked at this point?

looks like the latest build QNAP has available is 4.2.6 build 20200421 which is what I have .I can’t see where they are no longer supporting the unit I have. I am not sure where to find that info

TS-559 Pro II Limited 2017-12 (QTS 4.2) 2020-12

Seems this door is locked for you…

The TS-559 PRO II has the Intel® Atom™ D525 1.8GHz dual core processor which is only 32 bit capable.

If I remember the communication from QNAP correctly, they had decided to EOL all the older processors. (the D525 is a 10 year old CPU). That means they would remain supported for a limited time but not continue to receive new development. QTS 4.3 and now QTS 4.4 are that ‘new development’.

The CPU only has 421 Passmarks of performance. It has been well short of the minimum 700 Passmark threshold for some time.

I believe the best course here is to maintain the NAS as the great NAS it is and move PMS to a newer system.

Would it be possible that the plex team just release a plex app for older devices so all 32bit qnap would be supported by that?

I have a upgraded 509 pro witch is running smooth and has to die now becouse of this?

I’m sorry but it’s not possible to retool the build system and core PMS software to use an older version of glibc at this point.

The transition to glibc 2.14.1, which itself is almost 10 years old ( 07-Oct-2011 ) anyway, was done for PMS 1.15.0.

QTS 4.3 ships with glibc > 2.14.1 (QTS 4.4 ships with libc-2.21).

QNAP instructed us to set the minimum QTS version to 4.3.0 in the package.

If you can ‘make magic happen’ …
