Hi there experts!
I’ve used a yearly Plexpass since 2019 but due to the last price increase I decided to buy the lifetime pass instead, which I did yesterday.
Now when I logout from my existing server and login with the new server (different username and emailaddress) I can access the server from the webapp, so far no problem.
But when I try to add my existing server (+ Your Media-button) the app says I need to download Plex media server (which is already installed obviously).
How do I get my existing server to connect to the new plex user account?
Since I’ve got loads of media and loads of playlists build up in the existing seerver i really hope I won;t loose that data, that would cost me WAY too much time to recreate again!
So basically, all I want to do is link my existing Plexserver to my new lifetime plexpass without anything get lost or damaged or whetever.
Can anyone help me how to manage that? I’ve been searching over this forum and found lots of topics but neither of them speak about an existing server with a yearly pass that’s been transferred to a lifetime pass ?
Thanks in advance!
PS. I do still have access to the existing server through the old login/username/email, and I tried to logout and login with the new details, but somehow it doesn’t see my server ?
Looking at your account it appears you have already figured this out. if not let us know.
.
Well, yes and no..
Plex now works on my server (a Windows 10 pc) as it used to work under the old Plexpass.
But when I login on my Android TV, iPad or Android phone under the same user, I don’t see and can’t access my server ?
Same goes for a friend, who I’ve added to the new server as limited user with his old username.
The weir thing is, if I login on my iPad with the username from the old server, I can get partial access, but not full access like on my server?
I’m SO confused…
Firstly, when opening Plex on my iPad, with the same username as my server/admin, I can’t connect to my server.
When logging in with my old username (from before the transition to unlimited Plexpass) I DO get a connection to the server BUT viewing time is limited to 1 minute (??) unless I buy ANOTHER plexpass ??
What is happening guys ?
Also.. Semingly random my Windows 10 PC that runs the server can’t connect to my server… Sometimes it does… 2 minutes later it can’t..
Checked all settings in my router (which I haven;t changed since the new pass), disabled my firewall.. nothing seems to work…
I’m SO confused.. every time I try to lookup what the problem might be, I seem to be getting into an unlimited spiral of possible solutions, but nothing works…
Never did I have a problem when using my yearly Plexpass since 2019.. Why is all this happening ? Please help me try to figure this out..
Also, on my android phone and my android tablet I can only access my local media when choosing to login with my “old” username.. The username that was linked to my yearly Plexpass.
Should I reclaim the server to my old username to get everything to work again everywhere ??
If so, why can I only access my server locally and on plex.tv when I login with the “new” username ?
No. You should unclaim your server and claim it with the new user name.
The procedure is shown here: You need to reclaim your server, but don't dare to touch the Windows Registry
You may have filled in the field “List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth”. This means that any user in your local network can access your server, no matter which account they use.
Thank you for your reply..
I did exactly what you described and the result is…. the same…
I have access to my server, to all local media and playlists and everythinh, on my server/pc.
On both Android devices (phone and tablet) I can open Plex and it give me the choice of user (why?) Using the new username (same as I use on the server) it brings me to Plex but I don;t have access to any local meda. Choosing the old username it gives me access to my local media, but -for some reason- not to my playlists? The interface looks different compared to before the Plexpass change..
And the iPad? (I’ve never been a fan of Apple tbh).. works with the old username, but the new username gives an error 401 ?!?!
I haven;t tried my TV yet tbh, becaude the result on these android devices gives me not much hope..
Also, when logged in on plex.tv and checking the settings Remote access is red, as in Not available. When manually configuring the port again, it becomes green and should be able to have remote access… BUT.. after a minute or two.. it turns red again and is not available anymore? Pressing the “try again” button on the manually port option; it turns green again…
If I remember correctly this happened on my old setup as well sometimes, nevetheless the remote connection always worked fine.
The main question is: why can’t I see or access any local media when I login to one of the Plex clients??
And why does it stll work when using the old username? Also I find it weird it gives me the login option of both usernames, but that can be because on my own devices I’ve always only had one login, and now with the transfer to an unlimited Plexpass I had to create a new one ?
