Help with Plex pass

´ve been using Plex free version for a while and I love it. I saw the offer for lifetime Plex Pass and I am interesting, specially because I want to mount my server in a different location from my home. I have all my movies in an iMac.

I want to know if I am going to be able to watch my movies in 4k or HDR resolution at my place, my server (iMac) is at my office. I tried but I can not see it with high quality video using the free Plex.

My question is, I am going to be able to watch my movies on Plex any where in high quality video? the iMac it is always on.

My other question is, should I have to have a better hardware than an iMac or it is fine for me and my family (we are 6) to watch my media on Plex?

last question, if I subscribe to Plex Pass, should I do something else to work with high quality video outside network in the Plex server? I mean to make some adjustment on the server in order to work good the video outside the network. or it is just automatically.

Please help me with this also if you have some videos about settings if I have to do changes will be helpful if you could send me those links.

You don’t need a Plex Pass for that.

If you have the clients set to original quality it will send that but it also depends on your network upload speed and bit rate of files and whether or not the files are natively compatible with playback client

That depends on your files and what they are playing things back on. I have a Mac Mini and have had 5 people streaming at once but I also do’t currently use super high bitrate files. I would just try out what it is capable of now with streaming to family. You don’t need a Plex Pass for remote streaming.

You may need to set remote quality in clients to highest. As far as Plex Pass features there is hardware transcoding but MacOS afaik can only HW transcode one stream at a time. https://support.plex.tv/articles/115002178853-using-hardware-accelerated-streaming/
