Hope some here can help me with this issue, When i run movie on my home wifi it has very good quality, But when i stream from outside my home on another wifi it is very bad quality. When i start the movie it warns me that quality outside home can be of poor quialty depending on connection. But when i want to set quality to 1080p it jumps back at lower quiality. This is NOT the speed of both internet connections coes they are high end speed connections, I have Plex pass on the account streaming outside but not on server, And my server keep going back at not accesible outside (Can this have something to do with quality)
This can be due to lots of things… First, as you pointed out the upload speed of your sever back home is key. Most people have a super high download speed, but the upload speed can be comparatively lower. Hit Speedtest.net and see what kind of upload speed you have.
Next, is the size of the file you’re trying to work with. In Plex, you should be able to see the bitrate information by selecting Get Info for any of your files. The higher the bitrate, the bigger the window it will need to exit your home.
Download speed on the end you’re watching is also a factor.
Lastly, check the “Remote Quality” settings of the client device you’re trying to use in Plex settings. You may have a limit set there that you’re not aware of.
First Upload speed is 100Mbps and the one streaming is 300Mbps, so im sure that not it (Nothing else is running at the same time. Also size of movies is small movies taking with a cam and they show great quality on wifi at home, About remote quality it keep going back to low when ever i set it to 1080p, witch brings me back to my quetion, Do i have to have plexpass or premium to get great quality outside home and the “Remote connection” issue that keeps going red and say i dont have acces outside server can that lower quiality
Are both accounts yours or are you accessing a shared server? Or is it your server and somebody you share to is having the problem?
When i start the movie it warns me that quality outside home can be of poor quialty depending on connection.
What is the exact wording of this message? There are 2 I can think of and they point to different things.
But when i want to set quality to 1080p it jumps back at lower quiality.
This sounds like the remote access isn’t working properly so the connection is going through Plex’s Relay connection. Relay limits the throughput to 1 Mbps for a server without a Plex Pass or 2 Mbps with a Plex Pass.
Hi MovieFan Thank you for anwering, really appeciate it.
I have have done 2 settings, First i shared library with friend, This had very poor quialty and wasnt what we wanted.
Then i have set up users on main server so it starts with 2 ICONs and you csn choose me as admin and the other as user. This also has very poor quiality.
The exact words i cant remember it does it only once (First time after install) on Iphone but it says something like The movie may be of lower quialty depending on connection and restriction from mobile or somthing like that.
I have this issue, under Remote access it keeps going back in setting saying, not available outside your network. But is still is ???
Question. Do my server has to have Plex Pass for quality to be better or only my Client to be able to run stream for more than a minute. (I have Plex Pass on client but not server ).
AFAIK, the Plex relay bandwidth restriction depends on whether the client has a Plex pass.
So if you have a Plex pass on your Plex account, you can use up to 2 Mbps relay bandwidth.
Without a Plex pass, you can only use 1 Mbps.
Do keep in mind that buying the “app unlock” for the mobile Plex apps in an app store is not a Plex pass.
