I’ve messed with the secure settings crap several times, it hasn’t helped even a little bit
i was having the same problem until i saw the plex server needed to update on my pc. It was up on my activity icon top right. hope this help for someone
I had the same issue with both an xBox & a Samsung TV.
In the settings I had to tick the DLNA option. This worked straight away for both devices.
I have the latest version of Plex installed on my Synology NAS also.
I think somewhere along the line that option has become unchecked and then it prevents you streaming to some devices outside your own home network.

Have you found a solution yet? None of the advice in this thread has helped my connect to a friends server. I can access the server on my iPhone and my laptop. But ever since the latest update with my Xbox one? All I get is the server unavailable.
I have this problem and now I can’t leave early access (I guess it’s released now) so I have no workaround.
Same issue - I have two accounts one for the PMS server set up on my PC and one on my friend’s office server. Connecting to my PC has never been a problem, but can’t connect to the external server at all on Xbox - “Server is currently unavailable”. Never had trouble accessing it from other devices on my wifi network.
I’m looking for a resolution as well. I have 3 libraries, 2 external and one on the same network. My default library has always been one of the external servers but since a recent update it has been “unavailable” and I had to revert to the other remote server which doesn’t have all the content I need. My TV (HiSense running VIDAA) also can’t see that library.
I recently noticed that my PC can see, access and play that “unavailable” library without a problem. If I try to cast from my PC to my Xbox I get a message that the server “cannot find the file specified” and can go no further. If I cast from that library to my TV it plays although I still cannot navigate it from the TV.
I typically don’t use the TV for anything except to show what’s coming from the Xbox and I would rather not use this 2 device setup (PC casting to the TV) to watch my content.
I manage to address this by opting out of the preview program for the new UI. Getting back to the older one is a little weird now because I loved the new one but I can now access the library that wasn’t available. It shows as “Indirect” as opposed to “Remote” as it used to so I assume that has something to do with it. I’ll be looking into it so that I can get the new UI again.
I can’t believe there isn’t a fix for this. I’m having the same issue and nothing seems to work. Super frustrating.
Same connection issue, Xbox One Series S can’t connect to local server but can connect to friends server. Not part of any preview program and tried all options for Insecure Connections. (2) Roku streaming sticks on same wifi network, work perfectly fine. Just the XBox won’t connect, any help, thanks in advance
My parents on the other side of the country are getting the same issue. They can log in but it says the server isn’t online. They can get on a laptop and log into a browser and see the server just fine. Has anyone found any solutions? Thanks in advance for the help!
I’ve had this exact problem in the last week. Just yesterday I could connect to my plex media server but buffering, then 5 minutes later I couldn’t connect again. Like everybody else, it’s just happening in xbox (Early Access), all other devices work just fine
Confirming the same issue. Tried everything above.
I also have this problem and changing the settings related to (in)secure connections didn’t help.
It was working before but it seems to go wrong when a new local IP address is assigned to the server.
I fixed this on my xbox. My router has 2.4ghz and 5ghz connections. My xbox was connected to the 2.4ghz connection. I switched it to the 5ghz and it brought my server up on the Xbox.

Add me to list of people having this same issue. I used to go around it by removing early access and it would roll back, but that’s not an option anymore. Cleary that update is the source of the problem.

I have the same problem. I have an xbox one x. My plex server is running on my mac mini. I use a VPN (which has never been an issue prior) and I have my plex server operating through my vpn.
I have an iphone. I can connect to my cellular service network (i.e. connecting outside of my home network) based on the setup noted above and I have no issues.
I have the same iphone and I connect to my 5G wifi network (i.e. connecting WITHIN my home network) based on the setup above and I have no issues.
I used to have no issues with the xbox, but unless I deactivate my vpn, even with all other settings remaining the same and even with no issues with any of my other devices accessing my plex server WITH the vpn running, the xbox will only see my server through a vpn free setup. I do not believe this is a VPN issue or a setup issue given that all other plex apps have no issues. Just the Xbox one X plex app. very frustrating.
