HELP!

HI. I am new to Plex which explains why I want to throw this laptop out the window, but then I would not be able to read your responses. I want to be able to stream my cable TV via Plex to anywhere outside my home. I can already stream my cable TV via my Slingbox, but Plex is a new challenge for me. Not only is Plex frustrating but trying to find answers is frustrating.

So here goes…

I have an Asus Chromebook. (If you want to talk about frustrating, get a Chromebook.)
I am using the Plex web server.
I have set up Plex Cloud.
I want to set up a DVR.

I have no menu options to do that.

I have viewed an online tutorial video. Seems easy enough. But the video displays options I have never seen.

Yesterday, I purchased and set up an HDHomeRun Prime box.

Please tell me where to begin to solve my Plex problems.

Thanks!

You cannot use the DVR / Live feature with a Plex Cloud server.

The Plex server doesn’t run on a Chromebook, AFAIK.

Thanks for your reply. If I get the MacBook I am considering, I know I can run the server on that. Please someone explain what the web server is versus downloading a server to my computer.

The “web server” as you call it is a Plex server that runs on a remote server in the cloud. You store your media in the cloud also. This allows you to access media anywhere without using up your home bandwdith.
The server you load on your computer runs locally in your home and connects to media in your home also, stored either on the computer or extra hard drives connected to the computer via USB or living on your network. If you have a good enough upstream connection you can also access your media from anywhere but you are using your home internet bandwidth.
The latter is the only way to use the DVR/LiveTV options.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for your reply. So now I understand that I am currently only operating with the cloud server. I need the local server that I cannot have right now with my Chromebook.
