HEVC Transcoding causing S4032 manifest error

Server Version#: 1.41.4.9399
Player Version#: 10.25.0.2461
com.plexapp.android

Client: Motorola Moto G9 Play

Found plex is attempting to transcode into HEVC on an android client that does not support HEVC. The given error is manifest S4032 “Half Loop”. This error disappears when HEVC encoding is disabled.

This problem does not exist on any other clients.

Thanks for the report. I’ll write it up.

Any news about this issue?

I have nothing to report.

I’ve unfortunately been almost fully engaged with the server side of HEVC.

Has there been any beta releases ?

I have not seen a beta release targeting this issue yet.

Anything new to report?

Attached is using the same device but on plex preview build. Assuming the format_supported=YES is actually incorrect since the device cannot do HEVC.

@Corrupt-M

I don’t use Android (except the shield or LG webos).

If you don’t use HEVC encoding, does it play normally?

If true, can you capture the device logs of both success and failure?
I will immediately forward this to the team.

These are the logs for the same device, firstly using HEVC and failing and then disabling it and correctly playing the media

Using Plex Experience Preview

@MrCoolAndroid

which version of the xperience preview please ?
(Version & build & date please)

Client version: 2025.8.2 (1452) according to Plex Preview About settings

Update date: March 6, 2025 according to Play Store (if that’s what you meant by date)

Thanks, That helps me to point them in a direction.

I’m surprised the logs were so short.

Did you trim them?

I haven’t no, it’s probably because I installed the app on the date shown at the start of the log

@MrCoolAndroid

Engineering has requested a screenshot of the Plex Preview, Settings → About page.

They see where the device has identified it can play HEVC when it actually can’t.

They will block HEVC output in that device’s profile.

They’re specifically looking for detailed device model & device manufacturer info as it’s shown in that about page
