I have the same issue…
Pretty crazy that this has been going on for over a year. I’ve just started using Plex but will probably give a go to Jellyfin to see if their system is more solid. So much issues in so little time so far.

Version 1.32.7.7621 did not solve this issue.
I am also running into this issue
Same issue on 1.32.7.7621.
Impossible to launch a media if the device does not support EAC3, seems like the PMS cannot transcode it. Tried both with and without hardware transcoding.
Is there any solution on server and/or client side ?
EDIT : saw a post which suggests the error might be related tot he docker version of PMS as these users reverted back to native install and it fixed it.
All people here having issues with EAC3 are you using the docker version ?
Hi,
No native installation on Debian 11 here, so I don’t think it has anything to do with docker.
also in many posts I see that you can trying removing everyhting under the sub directory “Codecs” adn then restart Plex, Plex will then grab again the encoders and potentially fix that were corrupted. Haven’t tried yet but seems to be a solution for many users !
EDIT : no effect on my side
same thing here - this is a complete deal breaker.
When is there going to be a fix?
moving up
yeah, emby is playing the files just out of the box fine…I certainly want my plex pass lifetime money back → I’ll issue a ticket
Version 1.32.8.7639 did not solve this issue.
Just thought I would say I have the same issue.
Is there any possibly someone from plex will give us an update about that issue? It’s christmas so if there is only one wish I could have… ![]()
@ChuckPa Maybe?
Version 1.40.0.7998 did not solve this issue.
Why not post your logs and tag chuck instead of just reporting every release that it’s not fixed?
I have never gotten EAC3 greater than 768kbps to work in Plex. So, in the somewhat rare circumstances I have to work with >768kpbs, I suggest a transcode/remux to PCM or FLAC, or if you have the capability into DTS-MA. I have never seen EAC3 audio with Atmos JOC >768kbps “in the wild.”
As you can easily see, the logs and samples are here since JULY 2022. And my bad, thought that transcoding was PMS’s job.
As you can see, doing what you are doing isn’t getting you your desired result do I was suggesting something that may. Up you
Version 1.40.1.8227 did not solve this issue.
I’m also encountering the same problem! Is fixing this still being considered, or did interest for this issue has died down?
PUSH - i have also had this problem for years. Any new PMS Version dont fix the problem.
Very disappointing no fix since 2022.
