High CPU Usage

Server Version#:1.31.0.6654

Having recently upgraded my plex server from 1.30.2.6563 to 1.31.0.6654 I’ve now been experiencing very high CPU usage.

If plex was stopped from the App Centre then restarted it made no difference the CPU load was still running at around 80%, before the update it ran at around 0.01% as its an Xeon based NAS.

Once downgraded back to 1.30.2.6563 it now running perfectly again.

I have the same problem but can’t find the 1.30 to downgrade.

My CPU Nas is running at 90% during the planified task.
My NAS has his fan speed up and the NAS is now noisy

Before the update, i have no problem

Well did try the even newer v1.31.1.6716 build and that worked well with no CPU problems.

That was after installation, still yet to see after a reboot.

I am having the same problem here with my TVS-671 using 1.31.0.6654.

The Server is basically running at 99% CPU usage and has done so since install about 8 hours ago.

I have upgraded to the Beta Channel build 1.31.1.6733 and this appears to have corrected the issue however I will monitor further and post back here if this changes.

EDIT: OK, well that does not appear to have been the case however after updating I am noticing a lot of event logs under ‘Manage → Console’ with Entries similar to this below:

[CreditsDetectionManager] Running credits detection for item 84792
[CreditsDetectionManager] Activity: registered new activity f4b2bd9d-b79f-4dfe-a2f9-fcad9116b8c0 - “Detecting Credits”

It would certainly appear that the Credit Detection is causing the issue based on a quick glance. I guess at this point I will just let it run until its done.

Same here my CPU is maxing out on one random core on Unraid then plex crashes with no change to docker logs.

I ran into the same issue with 1.31.0.6654. So I downgraded to 1.30.2.6563. Then when the new release came out I upgraded to 1.31.1.6733. Over the last two nights the fans have been going nuts. I notice this is happening around 4:30 AM. Not sure what process starts in the AM, but it does finish around 6:45 AM or so.

If there’s some log that I could download to assist in debugging please let me know. I went to the Plex App > Manage > Console and only see the current set of logs.

Flynia, I agree with your assessment… I looked at the logs this morning and found the CreditsDetectionManager was running. Today, however (day 3 of build 1.31.1.6733) the fan was less noisy than day 2 and 1. I’ll observe what happens tomorrow and report back.

OK, after a few weeks it appears that Plex has ‘come good’.

Based on my observations it appears that this definately had to do with ‘credit detection’ however after a few scheduled maintinence sessions over the past week or two it is now working correctly.

At this stage everything appears to be back to normal so my advice to anybody is just be patient until it sorts itself out.

Concurring with Flynia. Day 4 of the experiment and Credit Detection has magically stopped making my fans freak out. In effect, 3 - 4 days of “indexing” or whatever the system needed to do.
