I have used Plex on a Sony Smart TV, always only in my network with a FritzBox.
And it works fine on every app and device, but on the new Hisense there is no one thumbnail.
I bought the life licence, and I am shocked, that this problem I read in this forum some times, and nobody fix it? Why? Every Topic is closed without fixing the issue.
I hope you will fix it, I have use the possibility to make in the fritzbox to close any blocking. I had the same issue in the skyQ receiver, because the Security was on Standard, after making it open, not opening Ports! it works, but this not helped in Plex.
Sorry for asking… but what’s the actual problem?
From what I understand, you can see your own or shared libraries fine on the Sony TV.
What do you mean by “there’s no thumbnails on the Hisense”? – is it not seeing your server/libraries at all, is it showing them but the libraries have no content, are the videos visible but have no poster…?
I have used it on my old Sony TV. But now I bought a new Hisense. And on this I cannot see any Thumbnail. Like in the many topics, which has the same problems?
I do not have the sony TV anymore. And on my new TV I cannot use plex normally. Because there is no one thumbnail loaded of my library, the thumbnails on the plex.tv loaded correctly. But no one of my own library.
So yes, the movies from my library do not have any poster.
I’ve only found one halfway recent post where users discussed this problem. It seems to have turned out to having been an issue with their TV’s DNS settings – so I assume there’s a default setting that fails to resolve the domain names linked to Plex posters / your server.
Hello, thanks for replying. But I used this dns settings in m router and checked it now with the tv. But I have a big problem more, if I want to watch a movie which I have started sometimes, and I can watch at a point where I have stopped it works fine, in the case I want to watch a movie which starts at the beginning it start for one or two seconds and then it stops like the movie were at the end.
It looks like the Plex app is not stable and well optimized for Hisense tvs? I f I use my app on iPhone it works fine … everything.
Ok, now I have the thumbnails, it looks like it helped to decline unsave connections Everytime.
And it looks like the problem with the automatically stopping like I would be on the end of the movie, was because of direct Play or autoplay. But this shows that there are many bugs…
I have plex on a newer Hisense running Vidaa 6 and plex app stopped showing thumbnails after first launching the app, then quitting out and going back in.
Also it is refusing to play any 4KHDR or trueHD/Atmos content, which both work fine via a Shield but not with the built in app. it says it doesn’t support the MKV container which is wrong, then it says it doesn’t support MPEGTS which is also wrong, then it just fails back to transcoding. does the same for TrueHD audio, which it definitely supports too. so it either transcodes 4KHDR H265 to SDR H264 and looks like butts, or if I stop it from transcoding it sits on one frame and either shows a black or grey screen or says it’s playing but sits at 0:00. definitely a bit broken.
TV is connected via Wifi6 at over 800mbit bandwidth to the server (which is connected to the local network at 10g) so it cant be a network bandwidth issue.
No known TV supports TrueHD audio for TV based apps. It will always be transcoded by Plex Media Server to a supported format.
If you want TrueHD + Atmos audio you will need to use a Nvidia Shield Pro, preferably connected directly to the soundbar/receiver. Not sure about Hisense, but some TVs, such as LG & Samsung, block TrueHD passthrough from HDMI inputs.
Even with basic ac3 audio the video issue still stands, so I’m just using my Shield Pro as usual. I just want the built in player to work because the other apps work perfectly. the Youtube app even supports all the AV1, HDR and surround stuff that many players still don’t support.
The TV shows an Atmos logo when it detects an atmos signal and decodes it fine. even the built in speakers are 2.1.2 with upfiring drivers and sounds like it’s doing the right thing with Atmos demo content. apparently it does pass Atmos from HDMI sources back via eARC but I would also be directly connecting to a receiver to eliminate the inevitable arc issues if I was running an atmos setup.
I mostly use my external HiFi Stereo (MiniDSP SHD via toslink to a Krell Power amp and Dali speakers) and let the shield do the downmix before it gets to the TV as PCM Stereo.
Always got a perfect phantom center image out of that.
