And if step 4 keeps failing?
Can you PM me the email address of the person you are trying to invite?
just to update with my results - I have been successful when users create their plex account and then I send a new invite. I have not had that fail yet.
I’m getting this same error trying to add friends as well. Never been a problem before and I’m always scrupulous to tell them to make the account first. Is there a limit to how many friends you can share with?
There is a limit of 100 friends. Please PM me the email of the person you are trying to share with that gets this error so I can check that they do have a Plex account.
Thank you, I will. I’m nowhere near 100 friends.
If you reach the limit, you will get a message about it and won’t even be able to send the invite.
Please PM me the email address so I can check if they created a Plex account properly.
I’m having the same issue… I have deleted the invite and re-invited him 5-6 times and every time I get the “Hmm, an invite error…”. I will p.m. you his email address, although he has been a member for a couple years.
Got the PM. There is no Plex account with that email address.
I have this issue too!
Step 4 fail
Oct 2019
Also experiencing this issue
Me too with some specific email recipients. With other can send invitation, so weird!
If the user uses an email program that can read from multiple accounts, accepting the invite could cause issues if they have another account as the default. The invite is specific to the email address of the recipient, if they accept using another email, it can fail.
Alternatively, have your user open Plex Web and accept the invite from there.
is there any bug tracking or work being done to address the root problem of fixing or simplifying the act of inviting a new shared user or home user, that does not already have a plex account?
It should be fixed now. After a user goes through the step of creating a Plex account, the invite should be accepted. That’s assuming the user creates a Plex account using the same email address as the invite.
I don’t know what the current invite says or looks like, but it might be a good idea to make it extremely explicit to the user (who probably already knows NOTHING about plex) that they must create a plex account (if they do not already have one) before the invite can be accepted.
also, bearing in mind that people rarely read (and comprehend) most emails and just ‘click the link’ regardless of the consequences.
The message does not say that, like you said people don’t read. But clicking the invite will open web browser to plex.tv and you have to sign in/sign up if you are not already signed into your account.
Hi,
I have exactly the same problem.
Tried all steps multiple times, but it doesn’t work.
So, i asked deletion account for user and now i can’t create a new account because “email is already taken”.
As indicated when deleting an account, the same username and email cannot be reused for 30 days. PM me the email address for your friend and I can have their account restored.
