Hmm...An Invite Error

Re : User/ Share Problem …Please Issue Technical Bulletin …

Hi …

I have seen many responses to the Subject issue … and Yes my invitees are getting the same Error messages :

“Hmm, an invite error… Sorry, an error happened when accepting the invitation …”

or …

“Hmm, an invite Error …You can’t accept Invitations to your own server …”

And my invitees continue to get these errors after (deleting prior requests…rebooting the server…etc.) when I following the instructions below for adding a new User :

https://support.plex.tv/articles/categories/features/remote-access-server-sharing/

I read that Some members seem to have success by getting the invitee to subscribe to Plex … But my thing is this violates what I was told from Plex Customer Support … and that is :

““Basic sharing of libraries is a free feature, available to all users. The person you’re inviting does not need to have a Plex Pass subscription.””

Also, I wish not ask my immediate family to Pay for continued Plex subscription when all they wants is to share my media otherwise if they sign up for Free Plex then their is RISK their ability to share cease after the 30 day expiration??

But Anyway …

In the end … this problem with User Sharing seems not just a Technical Issue that is specific to any ONE Plex Media server but an Administrative Issue with Plex (That is It does not seem platform dependant and I wonder if the error Message is coming from the Plex Proxy as opposed to coming directly from my Server??) … Something that seem should be addressed by Plex Customer Care in a Technical Bulletin … ??

To Plex Customer Care Team … please issue a Technical Bulletin that :

  1. Shows the error Messages listed above …

  2. Explain what may be causing the Error messages …

  3. Provide detailed procedures we PlexPass Administrators can follow to avoid the errors and add users …

I think Plex is an excellent Media sharing Platform and I really want continued service with Plex … but I am stumped to add new users … In Fact I lost users after trying to add a new user this week.

I also wonder if this issue related to my upgrade from 1.14 xxx to 1.18 xxx earlier in the week . I did not have this problem prior to the upgrade … ??

All are welcome to comment and suggest solutions … And again I would really like to hear from Plex Tech/Design Team … Thanks …

That is a misconception.
It is not subscribe to plex, but rather sign up to plex.tv and make yourself a (free) account.

Right now I see you have no shared users and only one invitation open. The invited user hasn’t accepted the invitation, yet. He won’t be able to acess your server without accepting the invitation.

If you want to do accept the invitation for the user (as a service for not so technically-inclined family members), I urge you to use the ‘incognito’ mode of your web browser. https://support.plex.tv/articles/201105738-creating-and-managing-server-shares#toc-3

For members of your immediate family (those who are living with you in the same household), you can resort to create ‘managed’ user accounts. These are using your own plex credentials to sign-in on their Plex clients and ‘Switch User’ later on. https://support.plex.tv/articles/204232453-fast-user-switching/

Neither the shared users nor the managed users need to pay anything to access your server.

Thanks for getting back Otto …

Yes I want avoid famiky having to sign up for Free Plex as there is the 30 day expiration … or monthly or annual fees … etc…

And True I have no shared users because one shared user disappeared off the list and I have been unsuccessful to add her back … I am not getting acknowledgement from any of a single one of Dad’s invitations and so I deleted them singlely before issuing another email request…

Regarding … “and only one invitation open.”

The one invitation that is open is an invitation to a Test Account that I created under a separate email address. If I try accept the invitation under this account I also get the “Hmmm…An Invitation Error has Occurred …”

Anyhow … I will try Incognito Mode tonight after I get home to the computer and TVs … I certainly hope Incognito works and will Post either way its Success or Failure …

To Otto …

No Luck with Incognito mode … when attempting to add my Test User …

I clicked on the link that was emailed to my test user email account … The Test User was presented a login screen and I selected Login with Email … I did not use the email of my test account … instead I used my regular Plex Pass login … Yet the "Hmm…Invite Error … " still happens

Immedistely afterward Plex Issues an email to my email that associated with my Plex Pass alerting me to a New Sign In to Plex …

So Plex recognized my login attempt … Why would it deny adding the test user …??

There is no such thing.
You are confusing this perhaps with a free test month of Plex Pass. But this won’t disable the plex.tv account after it has run out. Nor will it disable the access of your sharees to your server.

That’s not what I meant.
Don’t try to use the link in the email.
Instead, open a web browser in incognito mode.
log in to plex.tv with your test account credentials.
open the plex web app and go to Users & Sharing
https://app.plex.tv/desktop#!/settings/users-sharing
The invitation will be shown there, with a button to either accept or decline it.
