Server Version#: 1.16.4.1469
Player Version#: Latest version for Samsung smart TV ( I can’t find a menu setting to see current version)
For some reason, after years of problem free usage, 80-90% of the television and movie files I try to watch on my 2 year old Samsung TV from my home PC (an entirely wired home network) are skipping constantly every few minutes. The shows skip ahead anywhere from 30 seconds to several minutes. Even movies I watched error free just yesterday are now jumping around all over the place when I resume where I left off last night.
So far tonight I have –
Rebooted the TV
Rebooted the PC
Turned the router off for a several minutes and rebooted it
Made sure the Priority level for all Plex services is set to High in Windows 10 Task Manager
Unplugged and plugged back in the USB drive where the content has been stored for years
Made sure absolutely nothing else is running on the PC
After doing some trial and error I’ve discovered that the problem is in my Samsung 65" TV, which is slightly less than 2 years old. I do not get the random skipping while watching content on my PC, Android phone, Firestick, or Toshiba TV (roughly 1 year old). I uninstalled and re-downloaded the Plex app on my Samsung TV, which I’ve watched hundreds of hours of Plex content on with NO issues, and even unplugged the TV for several minutes as well. Video content skips every 2-3 minutes on that TV but nothing else. It jumps ahead as much as an hour at a time. There doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason to it.
I upgraded from 1.16.3.1402 to 1.16.4.1469 yesterday and started experiencing playback problems. Besides unexpected buffering, there were instances when playback just quit without displaying an error message. My playback device is a Roku Premiere+. The device supports 4K, but I was only playing 1080p content.
I think it actually updated last weekend, Sunday Aug 11, but didn’t give me any trouble until the 14th. But from everything I’m reading a LOT of people are having this exact issue with 1.16.4.1469. Here are my logs if anyone is interested. It started happening Aug 14th in the evening, and has been non-stop since 11pm on the 14th.
I am having the same problem now. One TV is a few years old, one was baught this year. This is a new issue for me also. The media skips ahead anywhere from 10 seconds to a few minutes. All attempts to thwart it have failed. Rebooting hardware and PC the server runs on hasn’t fixed the issue either. I was watching a movie last night on my Shield and didn’t have it happen, but will have to test it tonight to see. I was trying to watch a show in the living room and it began to skip ahead. Very annoying. It is likely caused by a bug from the update, as it has never done this before.
Oddly enough none of my FireStick or FireTV sets have the problem. I have a Toshiba TV (9 months old) that uses the FireTV OS and it works just fine, as do both FireSticks I have. So until they get a fix I just put a FireStick on my bigger Samsung TV ( 2 years old) and watched a few things for several hours last night, no problems at all.
Same issues on my Samsung TV after Plex App update. Years of reliable play have suddenly stopped and now every video buffers and skips ahead.
Steps Taken:
-Reboot server (unraid)
-Reinstalled Plex on server (Linux container) and Plex App on TV
-Power cycled entire network and tested connection speeds across the house - TV has a great connection and other web apps continue to run flawlessly.
-Logged off/on all accounts
