Plex for Samsung smart TV. Skipping/buffering

Server Version#:
Player Version#:

I’m not sure if anyone else has already started a thread on this yet, so sorry if this is a duplicate post.

The TV is connected thorugh Ethernet and the TV show(s) we are playing are only 720p, which have had no issues before.

There are only a few things that have changed since the issues started poping up.

  • the new UNO layout for the TV
  • one or two PMS updates have gone through

I’ve tried rebooting my router, rebooting my desktop (hosting PMS), hard reboot of the TV.
Nothing seems to be working to fix this.

Has anyone else experienced this lately, and what was your fix?
Any other options to try fixing this issue?

Update:
Just tested a few other options:

  • Works playing on my plex android phone app
  • also works if casting from phone to a chromecast connected to the same TV.

I’m guessing I’ll have to uninstall the TV app and try reinstalling.
Reinstalling the app on the Smart TV did not work.

Update: well it’s for sure the Tizen Plex app on our Samsung tv. Full uninstall a second time and reinstalling made no change in behavior.

We’ve played stuff every other way and no buffering/skipping.

Hard to say, since you didn’t mention what’s wrong

Omg. Lol

The Tizen app is skipping/buffering anything we play with it.

For me it has started stuttering on mkv files with EAC3 audio whenever there is any dialogue (I have DD optical 5.1 output only). Switching off Direct Play in the app seems to have solved this.

But I am pretty sure there was not stuttering in the previous version.

Same for me. Randomly skips ahead. It was working fine last night. Updated the server this morning to the version mentioned above. And that’s where the skipping ahead began

I couldn’t pinpoint if it was server side or client side. Since both updated for me between uses.

Since I’m not getting the skipping / buffering on any other apps or platforms I’m leaning more towards the Tizen app or Uno build for Tizen/Samsung.

Hope this gets fixed soon. The TV app was easier for the family to use. I don’t mind casting from my phone but the kids don’t have smartphones or tablets so the adults are the ones who have to cast…

It’s on the server side, as it’s affecting multiple platforms. There are a few threads, but this is the first and longest. Logs were submitted, but Plex has been pretty silent on any fix. Disabling Direct Play seems to be the best temporary solution.

Same issue here. Removing direct play from the setting on the TV worked.

Same for me! Version 1.16.4.1469

Something similar for me, getting small jumps of a few seconds repeatedly on 4k content and buffering on 1080p content when I enable SRT subs: Buffering with SRT subtitles on 1080p and 4K content with Samsung and LG TV

but, I am using the server version that many have reported in the ‘randomly jumping forward’ thread that works ok. I.e. downgrading from 1.16.4 or .5 to .3 fixes it.

I’m on:

Server Version#: 1.16.3.1402
Player Version#: 3.109.2

Buggy software - this same thing happens every couple/six months with Plex. Have same problem with same version, upgraded yesterday. Player setting usually set to 20mb/sec local, tried changing setting down to 8mb/sec - any lower and video is terrible. Down graded back to another working version that I have used since April. This current upgrade lasted about two hours before being removed. Every version released is better for some items (which had work years previous, now being fixed again), but they always break others (the cycle continues, break/fix/break/fix). Settings back to 20mb/sec running previous April version, works great now. There use to be a thing called beta testing, now there is the public for any piece of software out there. Plex is no exception. Patch, patch, patch OMG, this world of programming sure has changed since I had started.

I disabled Direct Play/Direct Stream in the Samsung Plex App and it is working fine. However it it transcoding everything now. Hopefully they fix the problem soon

Hello,

Same for me…
Since the last update, can’t watch anything cause it keeps skipping / buffering…
i ve removed the direct play from the setting but still skipping and buffering …

I’m gonna try to downgrade it but so annoying…hope they will check this out very quickly…

Server Version# Version 1.16.4.1469

Edit : after downgrading to 1.9.3.4290, it’s working fine again…
So it’s definitly due to the upgrade all the issues…

We’re aware of the issue and it’s being investigated. There’s already a forum topic on it so I’m going to close this one out so it’s easier to track. The other thread is here: Plex randomly jumping forward during playback
