I have been running Plex Media server on my RPi3B+ for over a year now. I have my admin user and one home user that I use for actually viewing content. I use the Admin for mainly setting the DVR to record shows. I performed the switch from dev2day.de to the plex repo. I have been able to successfully use the apt-get to update PMS. So I know that is working.
But after making the switch something odd happened. My home user can see everything that was added before the switch. But when I went to record a new TV show the Home user can’t see it. But the Admin can. I have tried to un-share the libraries and re-share them with that user. This did not work. I went as far as deleting the home user and tried to recreate the user. This again did not work.
I am unfamiliar with how the user permissions work with PMS. I would think that the admin and any other user are using the linux server’s user account that was setup when PMS was setup. I know that I set up the NTFS external drives with the proper permissions for read/write access to the plex user.
Needless to say I am at a loss as to why this would be happening. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sounds to me like a caching issue in the client. Is your Home user a managed user or does the user use a separate login? Do you see the same issue in the web UI or only in a specific client? Is the user / share restricted to ratings / media labels?
This seems to happen on all clients. The web UI, Plex for Android, and Plex for Xbox one. I use Plex for Android the most to cast to a Chromecast on my TV. With that, I have logged out of the Plex app then went into settings and reset the app altogether. After logging in, the same issue persisted. The shows that I wanted recorded previously, we’re still recording and showing up. But New seasons or new shows are not. this is a managed user, they do not have their own separate login. I have set up in the admin panel for the user restrictions dealing with rating.
Please check the rating restrictions of this user and the ratings of the recordings. E.g. start without restrictions. All media should be available. Then add restrictions till the media is gone. This should help you to find the problematic restriction.
Well, I feel a bit dumb… That was the issue. I was sure that I checked this. I have the home user set to be able to see any movie except X rated and any TV show rating. But I didn’t realize the show in question had a blank for rating. Once that was corrected, the home user could see the seasons.
